Question about Whirlpool RCC3024 Electric Cooktop

RCC3024 cooktop one burner wont heat

I have Whirlpool electric cooktop. It has total of 4 buners. One of the burner is not heating. Light come up when I turn on the switch but no heat on that burner. What could it be? I was told Initially, it could either be:
-open heating element (most likely);

-open temperature limiter (least likely);
-faulty/loose connection/wiring (a possibility).

But I don’t know how to troubleshoot any of this.For instance, how do I know it’s a open heating element and how to fix it. It is 3024 Electric cooktop. Model # RCC3024LD01.

Thanks.

    Hi Again,

    I need to open the cooktop in order to chek it. I am not sure how to open it. Can you please give me some directions? I was also looking for other whirlpool cooktop service manual (i.e RCC3024LB01, LQ01 or LT01) thinking they should be all be very similar. So, I can atleast take another sevice manual as a reference point. But, I am unable to find any. Also, neither links that you proivided for additional documents are working.

    Thanks.

Hi again,

It would seem you posted anew.

For some reason I could not locate related literature for a RCC3024LD01,although there are for LB01, LQ01 and a LT01. Most of the components inthese models could be checked with the use of a continuity tester(multitester VOM/DVM). The idea is to check for continuity of eachcomponent. If we are to assume that the heating element as a likelysuspect, it is a matter of checking if the coil is continuous, that isno break anywhere in between. The test prods of the continuity testerwould be applied to the two (2) terminals of the heating element andthe tester should deflect/display how much is the resistance. Normalreading shouold be pretty low while no deflection/reading indicates anopen coil and therefore would require replacement.

These additional documents may be of help to you:

  1. exploded parts diagram;
  2. parts list.
Cheers.

    Appreciate the postback. Sorry for the links, did not realize they were in my cache only. Pls try:

    • http://www.partadvantage.com/store;

    • pls enter RCC3024 in the Enter Model #;

    • you would be presented with a number of choices, try the RCC3024LB01;

    • next page would show COOKTOP PARTS and Parts Catalog Image, both are clickable.
    Alternately, pls reference below. I posted this for another user with a different brand but the general idea would be the same.
    Due to regional variations in design and manufacturing, some of the
    steps may differ slightly. To replace a defective heating element,
    please follow below procedures:

    • Before anything, pls make sure that the power to the
      Magic Chef Kitchen Range is off either at the circuit breaker or unplug
      from the mains;

    • Raise the cooktop. To do this, on some
      versions/models, the retaining trim must be removed by removing the
      retaining screws under the front edge of the cooktop;

    • Raise the cooktop;

    • the heating elements would now be exposed;

    • unplug the element's wiring harness. It is a good idea to mark the wires where they are connected or draw a connection diagram;

    • The entire cooktop could now be removed;

    • place the cooktop upside down on a flat surface padded with a blanket or rags to avoid scratching the cooktop;

    • Remove the defective element by undoing the screws holding the element mounting bracket to the cooktop;

    • turn over the element assembly to gain access to the temperature limiter and element;

    • Normally, the element is encased in a fragile insulated casting;

    • remove the wires from the element (again making a wiring diagram would be helpful);

    • Remove and replace the defective element and limiter by undoing the screws holding the element to its bracket;

    • lift away from the bracket. Install the new element and limiter assembly by reversing the dismantling steps;

    • Please make sure the new element is flat against the underside of the cooktop in the correct position;

    • Ensure that the element's wires are returned to the correct terminals/connectors.

    • Plug in the element's wiring harness;

    • close the cooktop and replace any retaining screws.
    Usually,
    a replacement element wold also have an instructions sheet (16000542)
    for a more appropriate procedure for your particular version/model.

    Cheers.

Cooktop on light is on when all the burners are off. It this a problem I can fix myself.or do I need an expert.

If the hotplate 'hot' light is on when the cooktop is completely cooled down then you will need an experienced repair person to fix it. It can be a bit complicated.

Front left burner will not heat up, all the rest are working fine

You either have a bad element or infinite switch. If you are handy you can do a few checks to determine which part is needed or if both parts are needed. On a failed element most of the time you can see a burn/break in the coil windings. You can check for continuity. On the infinite switch you can do a continuity check as well. If you are unsure of the repair I recommend change out both. The parts are affordable and you will have your cooktop up and running sooner.

The red light is on as a safety to let you know the surface is hot. When the light goes out the surface will be safe to touch with out getting a bad burn.

LIGHT STAYS ON FOR HOURS BUT THE TOP HAS COOLED

if its going out, its probably ok
its not a light indicating the burner is on, rather that the glass is abcove 100 degrees and still not safe to put something on
2 hours is a bit long but it depends on how fst the surface can cool of
you can test this by trying to cool it off faster with a fan ans see what happens

Whirlpool Flat cooktop burner not heating up

Try cleaning the knobs. I did the same thing you did (turning the circuit breaker off but that did not solve the problem.

My wife just tried turning the knobs and that seemed to work. It appears that one of the knobs may have been so sticky that the though it's in the OFF position it thinks it's still ON.
