Dishes not getting clean

Dishes especially on top rack are not getting clean and a soap residue is staying on them as well as the food. Someone suggested to switch from liquid to powder but it did not solve it. Noticed with powder all of it did not empty from container. Sometimes water is in the bottom of dishwasher.

-   I use dishwasher tablets and they remain undisolved at the end of the cycle. Dishes remain dirty. I tried the hottest wash but this made no difference. I shall try the solution offered below on this page.-   Guest

-   We have a similar problem. There is a coating of soap on the interior surfaces of the dishwasher as well. It also seems that the spray arms do not spin during the cycle. They are free spinning when the machine is off, but they have not moved during the cycle.-   anniemcu

Yes I had the same problem and just fixed it for $7.00. Did not even had to take anything apart. This is what you will have to do. If this dosen't work then try what these experts are suggesting. Please follow these steps for optimal results. #1 Break off a plastic Tea spoon. #2 Put it in place of a LATCH to by pass so you can watch the operation of the dishwasher.(put down some towels for water spill) #3 start the dishwasher on normal cycle. #4 Pour in Gallon of White Vinegar($2.00) while the Dishwasher is being filled. #5 Let it run through its cycle. After the cycle is complete water will drain out and then actual cleaning cycle will start. Then #6 while the dishwasher is being filled again pour in 48 OZ or bigger bottle of CLR (Calciam Lime Rust) it is available at Meijer, walmart, Rite Aid, Home Depot Ace Menard's etc. for $5.00. sit by the dishwasher and listen for it. if you hear water draining pull and push the water plunger so it won't drain so you don't loose your CLR down the drain. since you have the spoon in the LATCH your dishwasher will always be on so BE CAREFUL when you stick your hand in it. And after the cycle is complete enjoy your NEW DISHWASHER.

I just fixed mine that had the same problem. It turned out to be the red rubber check-valve just inside where the drain hose attaches to the bottom of the motor.

This check-valve, when operating properly during the drain cycle, will only allow water to drain out. During the wash cycle, it will prevent dirty water from the p-trap from being sucked back into the dishwasher.

If this check valve gets dislodged or stuck open, dirty water will get sucked back into the dishwasher during the wash cycle, leaving dishes dirty and, perhaps, water left in the bottom.

First, detach the drain hose from the p-trap and place in the sink or in a bucket. Turn the washer dial on and make sure the water does drain out and fully empty the water from the dishwasher. If not, you may have blockage in the drain hose. You can vac this out with a wet vac if needed. If you can successfully drain the dishwasher by clearing the drain hose, then pull the dishwasher out, place it on it's side and detach the drain hose from the motor. You may need some towels! Ensure this rubber valve is seated properly and reattach the hose. Hope this helps, it worked for me.

I didn't know what a filter plate was,so after checking the arms I took off the hose that feeds the water to the machine and found that there was a small filter on one end and where it connected to the machine there was another one (filter plate?). I cleaned both as there was a lot of grit attached to them and the machine took on a new life.

First of all: filter plate clean? Clean any locked hole.

1) Can you remove the upper spray-arm and verify if holes inside are locked by any residus. Clean the holes , and check if pure water come out when you fill the center hole with some water.

2) Switch on the dishwasher , coldest wash cycle dish-washer empty and without the upper spraying arm. Once you hear water streaming in, open the door and look if a little water fountain comes out from the center hole where the upper spraying arm was fixed. If not, this canalisation is blocked and should be cleaned. Try to continue the wash cycle, often the water pressure will clean itself this canal. Check also lower spray arm: it should be rotating a while and ejecting water thru its holes. If not, verify this canalisation as well.

3) Put the spraying arm again on its place, verify also the sealing else water pressure is going down and spraying will not turn and spray water.

4) Again, continu a wash cycle, open the door and look; upper arm should be rotating and some rays trown out.

Hopefully, this helps .

If not, pump pressure may be low; have a repair verify, can be that only brushes in the motor must be replaced, can be the pump worn out and to be replaced at all.

When this happens on my unit, there is some sort of blockage by the pump at the bottom of the unit. you have to remove the bottom spray arm, remove the hex screws, disconnect the water tower that supplies the top arm, remove the hex screw under it, remove the accumulator assy and look for junk. I am looking for inst on how to remove the protector inlet to further remove clogs. This Kenmore is the biggest piece of **** ever designed. It clogs very easy no matter how carefull we are.

I have the same washer. I've turned up the water heater temp and use the extra hot button on the control panel. It won't even remove butter completely from a knife. Dishes must be completely free of any food residue otherwise they won't be completely clean after washing in the DW.
