Stops Spin and Drain - Displays an F02 or a Sud

Our Whirlpool Duet (4 years old I believe, maybe 5) has started to behave intermittently badly. On occasion, though more often of late, a load will not complete the spin and drain portion of the normal cycle. It will stop and the controls will be frozen. I cannot cancel the cycle or change to anything else until I unplug the washer. Then, if I let it sit for several minutes, I can run the drain and spin cycle and it will work. Sometimes there are no issues at all. The loads are sometimes heavy, sometimes not. We do not always get a code, but sometimes I see F02 or Sud. I took off the back cover to check the belt, which seems to be in fine condition. I ran it through the diagnostic as indicated by the document inside the washer. The all seemed to function as indicated.
I am fairly handy at small repairs, so if there is something I can do to fix the washer on my own, I would like to do that and avoid the large service bill. Your assistance and time are much appreciated.

Actually the model is a ghw9100lw.

I did just that after perusing this site. No significant debris in the filter or around the pump. A couple small pins and some hair around the spindle of the pump propeller. I ran the diagnostic cycle again.
It seems to complete just fine. The only oddity is that the water pump seems excessively noisy. I do not remember that from before. It seems to have a sort of oscillating grinding noise. Would a malfunctioning pump cause this problem? That seems easy enough to replace.

    Thanks for the help.

A. Yes the pump could be the cause of your problem....and especially if it is making a grinding noise.....If it was me I would replace the Pump....good luck

You will need to first remove the front cover below the loading door... there will be 3 Phillips or Torx screws on the very bottom of this cover. After you remove the front cover you will see a white cap in the very center bottom. You are going to need a bowl to catch some water and probably some debris when you remove it....Make sure you get all the debris (coins wrappers...ect...) out before you put the cap back on the drain...Then try to run a normal cycle again. You can always run the diagnostic program that is found in the manual which is also located behind that front bottom cover.....please make sure the washer is unplugged before you remove any covers......let me know if this helped...

Washer stops running and displays code SUD. The water doesn't drain until It's put on the rinse/spin cycle.

Make sure you are using HE (High Efficiency)detergent. The codes could mean your washer is telling you it has used a built in "SUD" routine during final rinse
