This fridge will not dispense ice. Makes plenty of ice but will not dispense on the door. I had ordered a new circuit board and replaced which did not solve the problem. One other strange thing is if I unplug the red (power) wire from the light bulb socket (once i had removed the unit) The water will now dispense but yet no ice will. Please help!
Thank you. The part number WR60X231 is showing as a condenser fan blade on repairclinic.com. Is this part number correct?
Thanks!!!
Open freezer door, pull out the ice bin, push and hold the door switch, and push on the ice dispenser pad / lever. The U shaped auger drive should turn at the back of the freezer behind where the ice bin was. I suspect it is not turning. If this is the case, you have a frozen auger motor. Just thawing it out will not permanently solve the problem, it must be replaced and a " boot " installed over it. It is important to know the exact full model and serial number, as there are several motors to fit various models.
Recommended Repair:
To resolve this dispensing failure, the frozen motor must
be replaced (part number WR60X231) and the auger motor boot Part Number
WR02X11295 must be installed. This part SUPERSEDES
Part Number WR17X11111.
Repair Procedure:
• Remove the cover and harness assembly from the unit.
• Remove the auger motor and metal shield (if present)
and discard.
Note: Do NOT reuse a frozen Auger Motor.
• Place the new motor so that the terminals are pointing
upward. There are two slots on the boot for these
terminals.
• Slide the rubber boot over the motor, make certain the
two terminals fit into the slots.
• Fold the tabs of the boot over the mounting bosses of
the motor. If the bottom tab of the boot does not line up
with the bottom mounting boss, the extra tab can be
folded over or clipped off.
• Replace the auger motor assembly into the cover and
harness assembly.
• Reinstall the assembly.
Note: some motors will not line up all mounting holes. In that case, just use two holes.
A FixYa rating would be appreciated. Thanks.
NO ! Sorry, I misstyped. That auger motor is a WR60X10231
It does not sound like a motherboard problem to me at this point. Verify non-auger movement = the frozen auger motor problem. I'm a bit puzzeled about the stuff about the water dispensing. You may have to add more info about that if it is still an issue.
The circuit board you speak of (I think a WR55X10605) was it purchased new from a reputable parts supplier?
If auger not moving, take ice bucket out, try to turn the U shaped auger drive that sits behind the bucket by hand. If it does not turn, you have a frozen auger motor = replace auger motor and boot. If it does turn, there may be an electrical issue, or the auger in the ice bucket may be encased in a block of ice, preventing it from turning. As I post this I can not see previous posts, so I may have stated this before: If you can turn that auger U drive by hand,(ie: auger motor is not frozen) hold the door switch in and depress the dispenser for ice. Auger should turn. If yes, check ice bucket auger for ice jam and the end of the auger near the ice crusher / dispenser to make sure that is not broken (ie: not a solid drive). If able to turn U drive by hand but it does not turn with door switch and ice dispense pad / lever depressed there is an electrical issue providing power to the auger, or still possibly a bad auger drive motor.

MNTECH,
The model is GSS23LSTA SS and the serial number is FL 438800
I have noticed on other blogs they talk about the main motherboard being the issue. How can I rule this out?
Yes the strange thing is. The water will still dispense. When I got to press the button for ice or crushed ice and then then try to get ice. the lights go out and it seems like the fridge resets (goes quiet) for 30-45 seconds.
I had pulled removed the front panel and removed the dispensing lever assembly to reveal the wiring for the bulb and switch. Funny thing is, if I unplug the red power wire from the bulb i can get the water to dispense. As soon as I connect the red wire back to the bulb socket I no longer can get water to dispense.
Hope this helps.
Yes I purchased the front panel from repariclinic.com it was new.

The funny thing is over the weekend the auger motor will very occasionally work ( I mean like once and only one time) So I am unsure if that is the problem.
Please help.
I have a similar problem. The problem is that the auger at the back of the ice bucket turns but the one inside the bucket does not. If I push some ice cubes to the dispenser end and dipress the lever, a few cubes will dispense and the will be it. Is there a solution to this?
