If the ringtone file is too large, you won't be able to use it as a message alert. If it's a ringtone you made for yourself, re-make it as shorter.
If it's a downloadable ringtune, you may be out of luck.

All you have to do is on the top right hand corner and hit the icon furthest to the left and then hit message alert tones. I hope this helps i just did that to my phone. Its pretty easy to navigate.

If you record something then you can't put it as your ringtone.it has to have the tag mp3 on it and when you record them you get amr (adding mp3 to the end doesn't work, trust me i've tried!)

You can just set all your callers at least the ones you text to a certain ringer for message tones(go to the ring tone you want and then set it for your Ringer ID...then select a person(s) for that ring tone) but otherwise you cant unless you hack your phone.

On bluetooth, all ya have to do is, turn your bluetooth on.
but if you want to send a song, get into your tones,
1)highlight the song
3)press send via
5)then select in your paired devices or search your devices

Well, I'm supposed to be getting the LG Xenon soon, but I want an AT&T phone that lets you put your ringtones as message tones too. Please e-mail me at email@example.com to recommend me a phone that I could get. Thank you!

After going through the manual and talking to an AT&T rep, I found that it is not possible to set your own ringtone as a message alert tone. You can only use your own ringtones for calls and ringer ID's. We're stuck with the 10 pre-loaded rings for the message alerts. :(
