  • Anonymous May 01, 2009

All I have to say is this phone sucks when it comes to MESSAGE tones and you can't change them to ringtones and all of my previous ringtones don't work. I loved my razr V9 better. They need to come out with a new upgraded phone to compete. There seems to be so many more steps to get to something on this phone compared to my razr. Just had to give my input. Have a great Day!

If the ringtone file is too large, you won't be able to use it as a message alert. If it's a ringtone you made for yourself, re-make it as shorter.
If it's a downloadable ringtune, you may be out of luck.

You cant change it to do the same thing when you recieve a message and get a call, i have tried it also. But now i realize if you could of done it that you would be confused ,because you wouldnt know if you were getting a text or a call. since im a texter i would of gotten confused. LOL

All you have to do is on the top right hand corner and hit the icon furthest to the left and then hit message alert tones. I hope this helps i just did that to my phone. Its pretty easy to navigate.

If you record something then you can't put it as your ringtone.it has to have the tag mp3 on it and when you record them you get amr (adding mp3 to the end doesn't work, trust me i've tried!)

You can just set all your callers at least the ones you text to a certain ringer for message tones(go to the ring tone you want and then set it for your Ringer ID...then select a person(s) for that ring tone) but otherwise you cant unless you hack your phone.

Well, I'm supposed to be getting the LG Xenon soon, but I want an AT&T phone that lets you put your ringtones as message tones too. Please e-mail me at katherined95@yahoo.com to recommend me a phone that I could get. Thank you!

SOURCE: On the LG VU CU920, how do you set ringtones as message alerts?

After going through the manual and talking to an AT&T rep, I found that it is not possible to set your own ringtone as a message alert tone. You can only use your own ringtones for calls and ringer ID's. We're stuck with the 10 pre-loaded rings for the message alerts. :(

You can change the text message alert tones but you have to do it by accessing the phone's file system via a data cable connected to your computer. Goto lg-vu.com and search for text alerts and you'll find detailed instructions on how to do it.

Ring tones for my lg vu cu920

It must be under 300 kb.  Lame, I know, but that's the way it works.
If you want a ringtone for a specific contact, then your contacts must be kept on the phone, not the mem card, only.  I keep 'em both places, just in case.
