You seem to have a related problem, you can't burn cd's and you cannot install windows without an error. Either your hard drive has a bad sector where it keeps trying to write the data or your dvd drive has a reading error. Firstly check your hard drive for errors, right click on your 'c' drive and down to properties, then click on tools tab, then error checking. This can take quite a while, so be patient. Secondly, there have been numerous updates from Nero especially related to Service Pack 2 so download the latest updates from their 'Ahead Nero' website, they are free as you are'nt upgrading just updating. Can't burn dual layers?

You need:
* a DVD-writer that can burn dual-layer,
* a "blank" disk that supports dual-layer writing,
* software that supports dual-layer writing.

Got all these? Which software? What brand of DVD-writer? What brand of DL media?

What does "multi layer support" mean. Does it write multi layer discs? or is it able only to read them? Also, what is a lightscribe?

Multi-Layer support means the drive can Read/Write a Dual-Layer discs.

Lightscribe means you can create a label on a disk.

Cd/Rw playback CD player in lounge room won't play burned cd's...

Hi.

You need to burn your CDs in Audio format. That means that you cannot just burn your MP3 or WMA files, but you need to use the program which can convert those files to WAV format and write them so that ordinary CD players can reproduce them. Nero is such a program, among others.

DVD WRITER NOT WORKING

It sounds like you don't have the proper driver installed for that device. Without the appropriate driver your software will not be able communicate with the device properly.
