Question about Vtech V.Smile TV Learning System
There does not seem to be any power to the system despite everything being plugged in properly. It just stopped working.
I got the system for my 4 year old daughter less than 2 weeks ago and it quit on me. It's rediculous! Anyway, at first we used batteries and it worked fine but the batteries went dead after she played it about 3 times so we went and bought the power cord. We plugged it in and it wouldn't work at all. I looked all over the internet trying to find a way to fix it because we also got her $100 worth of games and had already thrown away the box so we couldn't return it. Everyone was talking about a reset button and my system DOES NOT have one! I finally found a SOLUTION[most likely temporary] Take the batteries out. Hold the ON button down for 45 seconds, replace the batteries with FRESH ones and turn it on. Sounds like it won't work right?!? Well it did for me and before the game system would come on for NOTHING. Hopefully this helped! good luck

I myself was ready to discard the system when I entered a search in Google and found this site. The 45 second reset does work... YAY!!! What I have found out is that one of the games we have is bad and once we would place this in the system, it would not work. After reseting and trying all the other games it works fine. So, it is the one game that has gone bad not the system. Wanted to let everyone know that you should check your games and if the system shuts down, complete the 45 second reset again and try a different game.

I have had the console for 4 years and the pocket for 2 years. Both units have been heavily used and abused over the years. Periodically the contacts on the games will need to be cleaned. I do this with a cotton swab or qtip with alcohol on it. Just push back the little cover on each game and clean both sides gently. I clean the contacts inside the units occationally as well. Just be sure to unplug or take the batteries out first and let it dry before powering back up.
The powerpack for my pocket just died after 2 years of being used daily. I have so far been very happy with v.smiles. Hopefully cleaning will solve your problems :D

My son's v-tech game system suffered the same problem. While I wasn't too optomistic on the 45-second-reset, indeed it was the right solution!! Now it's working!! Thanks!!

I again had the same problem vsmile just wouldnt go on with adaptor so i put in batteries which also didnt work (funnily enought though i forgot to take the batteries out and they still got drained of power). I have just tried the 45 second reset thing (which i didnt think would work considering there is no power going to it) but my 4 year old is now playing it! Am rather relieved as i was about to buy a vsmile pocket just so the games were not wasted!

I have the same problen with my granddaughter's v smile cyber pocket, it will not power up after being dropped. Maybe a loose contact etc inside but how do you open the case. Have removed the two screws in the battery compartment but case will not split? Many thanks

Okay here is what just worked for us after we bought the $20 Wow Wow Wubbzy game and the stupid console would not turn on. Take out the batteries, take the legs off and take all of the screws out. Open the console and check all the wires. (what a cheap manufacturing job!) Anyway from the inside check the power on and off connection ( in laymans terms jiggle the wires) put the batteries back in and hit the on button. Ours came back on so we just put the bottom back with a couple of the screws left the legs off. In case we have to do it again. Now she is happily playing her game. Good Luck!

I bought my daughter the vtech smile in pink, no power at all changed batteries, and bought new adaptor still dead. phoned vtech was told the games transfer a virus onto console. And i was advised to clean the prongs on the game with nail polish remover on a cotton bud?. If this did not work I was surprisingly told to post it back and it would be repaired or replaced even though I bought it 18 months ago.I guess there trying to repair the tarnished brand.

We have run into the same problem with the console and hand held unit. We took them apart to make sure all the wires and components did not come unsoldered, all was intact. My husband took some VERY find sandpaper and sanded the contacts on each of our son's games and it seems to work. Don't know why this should affect if the console or hand held unit turns on but so far it has fixed the problem. The console is hardly played with and taken care of, the hand held we bought used and has had MANY hours of use, but both went funny around the same time, and the only common thing between them was the games that were being played on it. This may be the solution, it may not, doesn't hurt to try. Just be sure the sandpaper is very fine.

I have this same exact problem. I emailed vtech and they told me..OH NO they have never heard of this..they gave me all kind of stats and junk that meant nothing...my suggestion is email them and let them know because according to them they have no problem..by the way I had bought two of the older versions and one of the newer one thinking maybe they had fixed it on the new version..but low and behold after a couple of months of use the same thing is happening...

No power when I tried the power button. This is the real repair! Tested electricity on main board. No power to main board or to power button. Tested power on adapter plug in board. Got current from adapter connection. Solution re solder black and orange cable on power board (going to main board). Plug in and bang we have power. Good luck!
