Everything works fine. On start up, the time executable error pops up. Laptop is a Dell Inspirion 1525, the printer is a Dell. Three devices under device hardware showing exclamation mark, 6t0? and isa? (Sorry, can't remember the rest of the numbers/letters) but I don't think that is the problem. It's driving me nuts because I can't figure out what is causing it.

There is a strong chance that the wireless card inside is bad. I work at a computer repair shop and work mainly with laptops. It isn't uncommon for wireless cards to go bad, before their "time". Usually Dell's have access panels on the bottom of the laptop where you can see the wireless card. It will have 2, sometimes 3 small wires plugged into it. Usually dell' use Dell brand cards, which are really repackaged Broadcom wireless cards in most cases. In your situation, write down what the model number is, go to another computer, look up that model on ebay, buy one, replace it.
OK, that is EASY. That basically means the optical drive (cdrom/dvdrom drive) does not "see" anything in it. If you do not have a disc inside it during the diagnostic, open the drive and insert a disc, then click RETRY. HOWEVER, if you DO have a disc inside and you get an error, that COULD mean you have a scratched or damaged lens in the drive, OR, you could have a bad disc in it. Try it again with several other cd discs. if they all fail with the same error, that means the drive needs to be replaced. Good luck. :)
If you have the vista disk, then just put it into the drive, and reboot. You may need to change bios boot order, which can be done by pressing f8 as the computer starts up, and selecting the dvd drive. If this does not work, then please refer to your user manual for the correct key to press. If you can boot, then the installation is self explanatory. Give it you country and keyboard layout, and then when the screen shows "install vista" button, undeneath it is a repair vista button link. Click this, and select your existing installation. From there it may ask you about "system restore" press cancel, and then hopefully, it will restore.
Hope this helps.
my dell inspirion 1525 microphone is not working. when i am on yahoo messenger i hear the other person but they can't hear me unlike before i use to hear the othe person because there is an in built mic.
Disable the turbo memroy driver and see if it will let you go onlin, if so download the driver or updated driver (if any), then unistall and reinstall it. If it won't allow you to do this, then try a system repair with your recovery or operating system disc.
