"Error" message appears - vhs stuck and no sound to... (by 2 users)

We have lost the sound to our home theater system. My sone was playing a VHS tape, and when he went to eject it, the player shows "error" on the display. The tape will not eject, and the sound function to our home theater system has quit.... it appears some system sensor has kicked in preventing the system to operate based on something with the VCR portion of the player... any ideas on how to remedy? We unplugged and let it sit for 45 minutes, thinking the system might reset, but no luck...
