Question about JVC AV-48WP30 48" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

Green Shade on tv screen

I have this greeen shade on my JVC projection screen tv. It seems to me the green is where th color black should be. For example, if a show on tv is showing a black sky on my tv it will have a green haze to it. My buddy says I need a colo adjustment, but it doesn't go away when I try to adjust the color form the tv menu. I'm allout of answers at this point.

Same problem here, everything has a greenish tint to it despite all adjustments. T.V. is fine otherwise. A friend says it might be a gamma adjustment? but I dont know how to go about doing this.

Got the same problem, light green tint all the time despite adjustments. Could it be a gamma problem and if so how would I adjust it?

This is a typical example of a convergence amplifier failing (any brand would be the same).
More than likely there are 3 amps and they should all be replaced together. Parts shouldn't be too
expensive but I would expect approx $100 US in North America and about £100 UK. Bear in mind thats for the repair not any transportation costs to/from the repair centre.

Projection TV sets have two very common problems. One is convergence ( 3D/Warped video) the other is CRT fluid ( Dull Video). Here are more details and solutions for both. Repair kits with instructions are also avail from www.TvRepairKits.com

Common Problem #1) Convergence has gone out

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some pics of convergence problems.

Common Problem #2) CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

Samsung DLP TV shows green color where color should be black

This could be your video board going bad where your input cables are connected --OR-- the color wheel going bad. Hard to tell without a photo or reference though. Try swapping the cables first... and listen for any winding or whirring sounds.

The color is off. Everything looks either green or yellow.

This is a light engine that is failing and a VERY common issue. Contact Sony because the warranty on these light engines was extended until June 30th of this year under bulletin E30020889. It is probably worth it as a consumer to call and see what they will do for you since this was really a design flaw. Please take a few moments to rate my answer. Thanks...
