Hi, so I have upgraded the IBM software on the machine for Win2008 and then I put int he win 2008 dvd and start the machine.

It come up with the Windows 2008 loading screen, with the loading bar below the windows logo.

When it has finished loading, it crashes and gives and error. The error is related to hardware I think. I dont have the exact message here now, because I packed the server away as I was having no luck. But my feeling was that the error was with the SCSI array. Windows simply couldn't see/ recognise the SCSI array.

When I was trying to install Windows 2003, I had the same problem. During this install I was able to install the SCSI controller drivers, but that didn't seem to help.

I am willing to pay UD $50 to anyone that can SUCCESSFULLY help me. I.e. If I am able to get the machine running with Windows 2008, I will pay. I have read one persons testimony on the Internet that they have Win 2008 on this machine, though the oficial eServer software from IBM only supports up to 2003.

    Any takers?

Yes. If you had read my comment, you would have seen that I had installed the SCSI driver and still had the problem.

Have you tried installing the SCSI driver during the installation?

If not, follow these steps

  1. Get the right SCSI driver from the IBM's website
  2. Extract it on a Floppy or USB drive
As the installation screen comes up, it would show an option to hit F6 across the bottom to install SCSI/RAID. Follow the on screen instructions. When asked for the driver, locate it to the driver where you have extracted.

Get back if you need any help. I shall try my best.
Good Luck with the installation.

I have an IBM x346 eserver that has run well for years. The fans are now very load (whirling noise). I typically only hear this noise when the room temp is high, but this server is in a cool room with no...

It sound like the CPU fan or server case fan/s or power supply fan bearings are worn.
To determine which fan/s is faulty open the computer case and stop each fan from spinning, one at a time to determine the noisy fan. Once you have identified the noisy fan then replace that fan.
