Hp photosmart 3210 all in one printer ink system has failed error code Oxc18a506

    I have a HP All in one Photosmart C6150 and I had just printed out 19 pages and got a ink replacement message and so I replaced that ink cartridge and IMMEDIATELY got the INK SYSTEM FAILURE MESSAGE,with the code Oxc18a506, I spent hours on the phone with HP and I was told it was a hardware problem and I needed to upgrade for a small fee of over $ 200 bucks. YEA RIGHT so I went online and found several suggestions. This is what worked FIRST make sure the printer is on and then remove ALL of the ink cartridges THEN unplug the power cord from the back of the printer and let it sit for 5 minutes, then plug it back in and WAIT for it to go through all the spooling and other processes that it will do and WHEN it tells you the ink cartridges are missing put them back in and wait. After that it was fine, I did do as was suggested and ran the clean print head assembly 3 times just to make sure that it was working properly and then ran the print head alignment as well and it is working like a champ. Yes running the clean print head uses a lot of ink but it sure beat the price of a new printer

To resolve the issue, use the following steps.
Step one: Remove the cartridges
Make sure that the product is turned on and then disconnect the USB cable from the back of the product.
Open the product cover and remove the cartridges.
Close the cover and wait for a message to insert the cartridges to appear on the control panel display.
Disconnect the power cord from the back of the product.
Disconnect the power cord from the wall outlet and wait for one minute.
Step two: Reinstall the cartridges
Reconnect the power cord to the wall, reconnect the other end of the power cord to the product, and then turn on the product if it is not already on.
Open the product cover and reinstall the cartridges.
Close the cover and print a calibration page, if prompted.
Print a self test report to make sure that the product can print.
Reconnect the USB cable between the product and the computer.
Try to print a document from an application on the computer.
If the issue has not been resolved, contact HP to review these troubleshooting steps and evaluate if the product needs to be serviced.

I just had this problem with a HP C5150 and I found this bit of conversation on the web and it worked for me.

My error code was 0xc18a0501 and the following steps did resolve my issue, hope it helps you as well.

  • OK I had the hp error code 0xc18a0001 problem and here is the conversation I had with the tech.....

    Earnest: Press and hold the "left arrow" key.
    Press the "Setup" key and release both keys, Display should say "Enter Special Key Combo"
    Press and release the "OK" button.
    Earnest: Please ignore the above steps, James
    james cowan: ok yes nothing seemed to do anything
    Earnest: Please perform the below steps on the front panel of the printer
    Earnest: Press and Hold the "Print Photos" &"Red Eye Removal" buttons. Release both buttons. Display should say"Enter Special Key Combo"
    Press and release in sequence"Red Eye Removal","Print Photos","Red Eye Removal"
    Earnest: Display should say “Support” and display the FW rev (something like R0616R)

    Earnest: 2. Press and release the right arrow button until the display says “System Configuration Menu

    Earnest: 3. Press and release the "OK" button.

    Earnest: Press and release the "OK" Button. Message changes to "Hardware failure status Cleared. Press Cancel to continue".
    Earnest: Press and release the "CANCEL" button as many times as necessary, so that, either the "Welcome to Photosmart Express" screen appears, or, the "Ink System Failure" screen appears. PLEASE DO NOT TRY TO PRINT AT THIS STAGE.

    Earnest: Using the Power Button, turn the unit OFF and unplug the power cable from back of the printer and wall outlet.
    Earnest: Let me know once you are done with the above steps
    james cowan: ok its unplugged
    Earnest: Wait 30 seconds for the power to get discharged and then plug the power cable into the wall outlet first and then into the back of the printer
    Earnest: Turn the unit on. The printer may display message "USE POWER BUTTON TO SHUTDOWN THE PRINTER" followed by "PRESS OK TO CONTINUE".

    Earnest: Let me know the message displaying on the front panel of the printer
    james cowan: printer preparation occuring - do not interrupt
    Earnest: Okay
    james cowan: ok its done
    Earnest: Let us print a self test page from the printer now
    james cowan: ok deal
    Earnest: 1) Load letter, A4, or legal unused plain, white paper into the input tray.
    2) Make sure that the printer is on and loaded with unused plain, white paper.
    3) Press Setup . The Setup menu appears.
    4) Press the down arrow button to select Tools , and then press OK .
    5) Press the down arrow button to select Self-test Report , and press OK .

    Earnest: Okay, please check whether all the colors pritned perfectly on the test page

I, too, used the same solution of holding down "OK" "CXL" and "BLACK COLOR" at the same time. Printer will restart itself and everything is a-ok!

. Disconnect the Universal Serial Bus (USB) cable from the back of the product, but leave the product turned on.
2. Open the cover of the product and remove the print cartridges.
3. Close the cover and wait for the Insert Ink Cartridges message to display.
4. Disconnect the power cord from the back of the product and the wall socket, then wait for one minute.
5. Reconnect the power cord. If the product does not automatically turn on, press the Power button.
6. Open the cover and reinsert the print cartridges.
7. Close the cover. If prompted, print a calibration page.
8. Print a Self Test to verify product is functional.
9. Reconnect the USB cable, and try to print from the computer.
10. If the error is still there replace the unit


1. Get the unit into the “Support Menu” by following the steps below
A. - Press and hold the “*” key.
B. - Press the “#” key and release both keys.
Display should say “Enter Special Key Combo”
C. - Press and release in sequence the “1”, “2” and “3” buttons.
Display should say “Support” and display the FW rev (something like R0631R)
2. Press and release the right arrow button until the display says “System Configuration Menu”. (on C8100 use Touch Screen)
3. Press and release the “OK” button.
4. Display should say “Hardware failure status”. If not there already, Arrow Key over to “Hardware failure status”,
5. Press and release the “OK” button.
6. Display should say “Hardware failure status: Clear. Press OK to clear”.
7. Press and release the “OK” Button. Message changes to “Hardware failure status Cleared. Press Cancel to continue”.
8. Press and release the “CANCEL” button as many times as necessary, so that, either the “Welcome to Photosmart Express” screen appears, or, the “Ink System Failure” screen appears. PLEASE DO NOT TRY TO PRINT AT THIS STAGE.
9. Using the Power Button, turn the unit OFF and unplug the power cable from back of the printer and wall outlet.
10. Wait 30 seconds for the power to get discharged and then plug the power cable into the wall outlet first and then into the back of the printer
11. Turn the unit on. The printer may display message “USE POWER BUTTON TO SHUTDOWN THE PRINTER” followed by “PRESS OK TO CONTINUE”. Press OK.
12. If the printer has already initialized, then go to the next step. If not, the printer will start the “ONE TIME INK INITIALIZATION PROCESS”. Allow this process to complete and do not interrupt. Once the initialization process is complete, the printer will print out a Diagnostic Page.
13. To verify printer functionality print a SELF TEST PAGE. If SELF TEST prints, then printer is ready for use or Software Installation.
14. If the error is still there, or reoccurs replace the unit.

Hello,

The "Ink System Failure" error is causes by air in the ink feed tubes. We have a step by step guide purging the air from the feed tubes posted on our web site. Go to our site at: www.ccl-la.com , click on the printer repair page link and then the HP link. Follow the steps and you should be back printing in no time at all.

IssueAn 0xc18xxxxx or 0xc19xxxxx ink system error code displays on the front panel. The printer cannot copy, receive faxes, or print. 
Solution
Press the On button to turn the printer off. 
Unplug the power cord from the back of the printer.
Remove all the ink cartridges.
Wait two minutes.
Plug the power cord into the back of the printer.
Press the On button to turn the printer on. 
Install the ink cartridges when prompted.
If the error code does not display, the issue is resolved.
If the 0xc18xxxxx or 0xc19xxxxx ink system error code displays on the front panel, service the printer.

Error message


If you are getting inksystem failure along with Error 0xc18a0106 then contact HP support, if you are not getting ink system failure along with Error 0xc18a0106 then power cycle the printer and then reset, this will resolve the issue.
