My lcd and view finder are unable to show subject

It looks like night shot is on, but its not, as it shows a light fixture when pointed at it but not when you point away. If I try to record something inside the house nothing shows up. I can see color in the view finder and lcd when I am outside in the light

Are you saying that when you have low light (like inside) the picture is dark, but outside in the sun the picture is OK?

The problem you are having is called a "stuck iris" Inside the lens are two thin plastic sheets that slide over one another that limit the amount of light that comes into the lens. In some Sony camcorders, the motor or "actuator" that drives the iris, or moves the two sheets which are the iris opened and closed. The actuators sometimes leak oil onto the plastic sheets causing them to stick, so the light coming into the lens is stuck at one level. Some technicians will recommend lens replacement (expensive) but many times the iris assembly can be removed from the lens and cleaned. Try to find a service shop that will clean the iris rather than replacing the lens.

The lens has to be removed from the camcorder in order to gain access to the iris assembly. The iris slides into the side or the top of the lens and is usually held in place with several tiny screws. I know you don't want to hear this, but it isn't a job I would recommend a consumer attempt. as it's very easy to damage your camcorder and make your problem worse than it currently is. Further, you may have to "shop around" for a tech willing to repair the lens rather than replace it, as Sony recommends. I wish you luck in your search. Thanks for the rating, it is appreciated!

If camcorder shows old recorded tapes picture with correct colors in LCD but does not show live view in camera mode to record new movie then its ccd imager chip failure.

Dvx100a showing black screens on lcd screen and view finder

You probably have the lens cap on, the iris dial closed, or you are in vcr mode rather than camera mode. You may also have the nd filter set to 1/64th, this is only for bright sunlight. When shooting indoors with low light, set the nd filter to off and hit the iris button until iris manual appears on the lcd, then dial the iris dial in front of the iris button up or down to bring the iris to around 5.6 f stop.

Distorted picture when looking through view finder or lcd screen

the video playback is sampled off the video out and independently processed sorta like a TV signal to project on the lcd screen.
horizontal lines means you lost sync circuit and needs troubleshooting. Hopefully maybe a bad connection with a ribbon cable for the ICs and components are hard to change and jammed tight. I would order a video board.

Gr-dvx7 jvc lcd screen is just white?

If the view finder shows the same white display. You probably have display circuit problem in the camera. Faulty CCD chip usually shows Black screen so it probably board problem or a connector problem. If you see an image through view finder then you may have defective connection from board to LCD assy. Either way it need to be looked at by a trained technician. Good luck.
