Sounds like a bad compressor to me, you should have 5 yr full warr on compressor, if over 5 years you can try to replace the overload relay assy attached to the side of the compressor

If it is clecking it will need to be tested. Feel the top of the compressor to see how hot. Can you keep hand on top of compressor? Too hot to keep hand there? What is the model number of your refrigerator? Thanks Sea Breeze

Loud humming noise from compressor

If sounds are from compressor I don't think compressor will start with humming. It is possible the compressor start relay and run capacitor are defective. If humming and not cooling the compressor is most likely overheating. Plull away from wall and unplug, remove lower cover over compressor and feel top of compressor. If too hot to keep hand there you will need to leave unplugged until problem is resolved. Click Here=> Service Manual Hopefull the compressor has not been affected so click here for=> Tech Sheet were we can go throug some test steps find exactly what is going on, Thanks, Sea Breeze

Yes it is a very big concern. It sounds to me like your condenser is dirty and the compressor gets hot and goes off on overload. You can tell by putting your hand NEAR the compressor.Be careful as the compressor can be very hot

If the defrost cycle was stuck on then the compressor would not be humming trying to start. You may have a shorted compressor. Especially if its a frigidaire they are known to have the worst compressors. You can use a meter to check your compressor windings. You can check for a short by scratching the paint off the compressor and checking from each terminal to the bare metal on the compressor. If you have continuity then its shorted. Also check continuity from each pair of pins on the compressor. Good Luck _MJ_

I purchased an Amana refrigerator that has been making a humming noise and will not keep food cold or frozen. what' wrong? The model # is ABB1924DEB, and I purchsed it in 2005. is it included in their...

The recall was for units that had embraco compressors. the relay would burn up and not start the comperssor. (hum and click) some amanas had tecumseh compressors. They would just scize up and not run (hum and click)No recall. remove the back cover and see what name is on your compressor. If its hot and trying to start, Embraco needs new relay, Tecumseh needs to be replaced with a embraco compressor.

My side by side refrigerator and freezer artent

ALWAYS CHECK THE EASY THINGS FIRST,LOOK LISTEN AND FEEL. PULL THE FRIG OUT AND CHECK THE COILS AND CLEAN IF DIRTY
2) LISTEN TO HEAR IF THE COMPRESSOR IS TRYING TO START, WHERE THE POWER CORD GOES INTO THE COMPRESSOR YOU SHOULD SEE A LITTLEDOMM SHAPED COVER THAT HOUSES THE CONNECTIONS LISTEN TO SEE IF YOU HEAR A HUM THE A CLICK.
THE HUM IS THE COMPRESSOR TRYING TO START THE CLICK IS THE OVER LOAD TRIPPING OUT FROM TRYING TO START THE COMPRESSOR, IF YOU HEAR THE HUM AND CLICK THE COMPRESSOR IS LOCKED UP AND CAN BE VERY COSTLY TO REPAIR. IF YOU HEAR THE COMPRESSOR RUNNING FEEL THE LARGER OF THE TWO COPPER LINES ON THE COMPRESSOR AND SEE IF IT IS VERY HOT, WHEN I SAY HOT I MEAN HOT SO JUST LIGHTLY TOUCH QUICK. IF THE LINE IS VERY HOT THE COMPRESSOR IS BAD AND PUMPING HOT GAS BACK TO THE UNIT. THIS ALSO IS NOT CHEAP
3) IF THE LINE IS WARM YOU MIGHT BE SAFE IT COULD JUST BE LOW ON A CHARGE THIS CAN BE REPAIRED EASILY SOME TIMES, ALL DEPENDS ON WHERE THE LEAK IS IN THE UNIT.
IF YOU DON'T FIND ANY OF THESE THINGS WRONG AND YOU HAVE ELECTRICAL TRAINING YOU CAN START AT THE POWER CORD AND WORK YOUR WAY THRU THE UNIT FOR ANY BAD COMPONENTS. OF WHILE THE UNIT IS PLUGED IN DOES THE LIGHT COME ON. UNLESS YOU ARE CFC CERTIFIED AND HOLD
A CARD FOR THIS NO YOU SHOULD NOT TRY AND REPAIR THIS YOUR SELF. ELECTRICAL TROUBLE SHOOTING YOU CAN DO
WHEN EVER YOU HAVE TO CUT INTO THE REFRIGERATION SYSTEM ITSELF I WOULD SAY NO UNLESS YOU HOLD THIS CFC CARD THE FINES ARE UNBELIEVABLE IF YOUR EVER CAUGHT

Freezer not freezing on m,aytag mfd2560hes

hi andy, based on your story, i think the humming sound is coming from the compressor trying to start and the clicking sound is when the overload trips and make that clicking sound to turn off the compressor but it does resets itself so it would humm again after a few minutes and tripps off again..try to unplug the unit for a day to cool off the compressr and then plug it back. if it will happen again, you need to replace the compressor. i hope i was able to help..

I moved our 18 month old samsung fridge freezer Model SR281NW and one week later it has stopped working. The freezer fully defrosted and the fridge, even though it has the light on, is not cold

Is the compressor trying to run at all. Are any sounds coming from the area of the compressor? Like a hum and a click sound in that order? If the compressor is cold to the touch it could be a control problem. If the compressor is cold there are two things that shut its power off. The thermostat which controls the temperature or the defrost system. If the compressor is hot the problem is compressor related.

Mullion heater connection for Amana 84" Integrated bottom mount refer model B136CAR3 mfg P1318402W. I need to hook up the mullion heater that is under the freezer, component P/N 12401301. But I cannot find the mullion heater connection point. According to the specs it's installed in the foam and not wired from the factory and is for service purposes. The reason for this is that the water from the defrost cycle re-freezes and clogs the drain hole. Eventually the ice gets almost an inch thick and it's SOLID. The freezer drawer cannot open, so I have to thaw it all out and pry it open. I've done this dozens of times over the years! The service tech never figured it out. But with help of my boat-refer-expert brother we found the solution at the high level. Devil is in the details. According to the instructions: make a slit and peel back the white vinyl harness sleeve that goes to the water valve, pull out two wires (black and white) that aren't connected to anything (yet). Then "locate the mullion heater leads at the left side of the cabinet and connect to the back and white leads". Then Wrap vinyl sleeve with electrical tape to seal the slit. OOOOOKAY.... I found the unconnected leads in the harness that goes to the ice maker water valve. They have male bullet style plugs and clips (a little corroded) but I cannot find anywhere to connect them... Is left side of the cabinet as viewed from the front or back? The main harness is on the left rear area. And if I make the slit long enough (which is very difficult, then the wires could make it back there. If I only could find where the mullion heater's connectors come out. Of course the wiring diagram only shows the mullion wiring as optional and not connected to anything. I really do not want to lay this 500lb (at least) beast on it's side. It already fell on me and my daughter, but a countertop and pallets save us. This refer has been nothing but a pain to deal with ever since I bought in 2001. I don't want to get rid of it, since it has custom wood panels that go with our kitchen, and I fell on hard times (due to illness) and cannot afford a new one. It fixed many things on it already. Such as the problem where the relays weren't soldered properly onto the main logic board, which fixed the non-defrosting problem and the freezer fan not working. But now the drain hole plugs with ice. So I read that many freezers have a 5W to 20W heater that runs all the time to keep the hole from freezing. Especially if water gets in the insulation under the floor of the freezer. Anyway, can anyone tell me how to find the connections to the mullion heater? Is it in the outside-rear channel up back of the refer? it's pop-riveted on. Thanks! Scott
