Tractor not starting , I do not see any gas in fuel filter

My tractor has always started (SABRE by JD) 20 HP B&S Vanguard OHV, recently it will not start; it turns over fine but I do not see any gas being pumpedinto fuel filter. I too fuel filter off and turned engine over but still did not see any gas spilling out of fuel hose. Could the problem be in the fuel tank or is it in the carburetor, fuel pump, etc. I did use my air hose and blew out fuel line back into gas tank and observed air getting in that way. Thanks, Dan

Hi, Did you say that you herd the air blowing into the gas tank? and did you hear a bubbly sound

Silly question! Do you have any gas?

tractor died and would not start. I drained gas tank and bled fuel lines. Tractor ran then died again after 5 minutes. Kubota serviceman suggested debris as the problem.

Maybe a leaf or small twig in the tank keeps floating to the hole?

If fuel line from fuel pump to carburetor is dry, you need to replace the fuel pump.
Check your gas cap to make sure the tiny air/breathing hole in the top is clear.

I would suspect the fuel pump. Those thin diaphragms wear out every few years. But you can also make sure there is no obstruction in the line from your tank at the same time!

My jd 111lawn tractor wont start was mowing it just slowly died.now it will turn over but wont start

Sounds like a fuel issue. Check and make sure your gas tank has fuel in it. Then check fuel filter to see if it is allowing fuel to the carb.

Tractor sat for winter and started and white smoke stopped and carb is spitting out gas

Please desribe the engine type (Vanguard V2?) and what was the cause if you had it fixed. I had the same problem--serious to the point off heavy fuel loss and fire if the muggler had heated but turned of immidiately. Only two explanatiions seem possible:
  • Frozen float/float valve
  • Spontaneouls fuel pump failure or impulse control fault.
Enough fuel coming out to pour through filter and out of cleaner assembly. No apparent cause otheer (in my case) than recent filter service prior to few months storage.

Jd gx345 20 hp kawasaki water cooled. turns over will not start Both coils have juice to bath termals at the same time with the key on or off.

Drain fuel completely from tank, fuel line, and carburetor... Change fuel filter, change spark plug(s) add FRESH gas... Not 1 week, month or year old gas... (Can't be contaminated, or mixed with old fuel) there will be a drain screw on the carburetor (at the side of the bowl) You may need some quick start to get the engine to initially start up and keep it running with the spray until the fuel system fills up with fresh fuel and stays started.

hi there

here is web site for manual and parts diagram

http://www.hammerwall.com/Download_Manual/12377/

have the valves been adjusted correctly ? or could have a tight valve clearance
and when gets warm holds valve open - looses power

your engine will be 31p777 intek ohv avs

run the piston to tdc on compression stroke , then turn piston past tdc & set piston is 1/4 inch down the bore on power stroke this eliminates decomprssor lift from the setting

intake should be 0.003 Thou
and exhaust 0.005t thou

then check the carburettor main jets and emulsion tube and pilot jets and air bleeds and progression ports for obstruction etc for restriction / blockage

check fuel flow from tank to carb , check that the fuel solenoid has got continual 12 volt supply
when switched on and does not go o/c cutting fuel supply to main jet

have a look let me know

cheers hope it helps

After about 30 minutes engine will start surging, by partly pulling the choke out it will run better. The carb has been recently rebuilt as well as new filter and fuel line to carb. Tried different fuel...

Typically a surge is caused by a lean condition. I'd say the float is set to low and this is causing the engine to lean out & when you apply the choke it richens it back up.and the surge stops.

Just maybe, since this is an OHV engine, the valve lash needs adjusting. Your are possibly seeing the results of poor clearance when the machine heats up and the metal valve train expands, Then after cooling, the train is within tolerance again, allowing the engine to start and run. Check into adjusting those valves.
