Timers are pretty much non-servicable. If the knob is broken, you have to replace the timer.

I cant get the older (10 yrs) timer out to see if my junction box will hold a newer digital model. I tried to pull the knob out but it doesnt budge. There doesnt seem to be a set screw.

If following information does not apply, then add a comment with in-focus photo of timer posted on flickr, for possible help.
All timers are attached to electrical box with 2 screws that are usually hidden by a cover plate.
Some really old timers have a set screw on the knob itself.
Most 'knob' timers fit onto a shaft by friction. Put a pry bar under it and force it off.
If timer is attached to cover plate, see if you can break the cover plate.

How do I remove the wires connected to the little black thing on the side of my compressor that connect into the inverter box. I have tried to pull them out of the little black thing and they won't...

That is the overload relay and it conect with compressor with three pins ina triangle shape. The best way is to use a srewdriver as a lever. Place the end on the compresor and the body of the srewdriver behind the box now pull it slowly but you can use some force to pull it out. The pins from long time they become rusty and stuck so dont afraid to use some force.

How can I remove the timer knob from a Frigidaire Washer

Knob PN 131592001 Just looking at replacements it appears to just push on. If pulling on it does not get it off then rotate it CCW in an attempt to unscrew it. Just be VERY careful that the timer stem does not rotate if you turn the knob CCW or you will be buying a new timer. Open the top and hold the stem if you have too. (easier said than done) Worst case... if you have a bad knob and have a replacement knob in hand... break the defective knob. If your changing the timer look at the stem on the new timer. If it is threaded on the end the knob unscrews. If it is not threaded it pulls off.

The temperature knob on our ZWF14170W washing machine is stuck on 90C. My wife only turned it round to clean the knob and now it is stuck fast. I have tried to turn it back but am afraid of breaking it off...

There is a clip on your timer know in behind the knob itself. You got it miss align when your put it back and there is nothing there to hold in place.

Kenmore Series 80 Washer timer knob spins

Something in the timer came apart. Timer needs replaced. When in good working order, the timer should ONLY ever be turned clockwise..Reversing this could break it.

Can't remove Dacor gas cooktop knobs-afraid too pull harder

The Dacor knobs have a history of breaking easily. For that reason I recommend that you clean them in place using cotton swabs, tooth brush, etc. WHatever cleaning agent you use, put it on and let it sit for 5 minutes to loosen up any grime.

They do pull off but they often break and they are pricey to replace.
