I've found instructions with a diagram about how to open it up (for a memory upgrade). The directions are in German, but the pictures should still be useful.

http://www.amilo-forum.de/topic,1056,-Arbeitsspeicherwechsel-RAM-bei-Amilo-Pro-v2010.html

Basically, the directions
1. Shutdown the laptop, turn offthe main source on the wall, unplug and
disconnect the power supply fromthe laptop.
2. Discharge yourself by touchingthe unpainted part of a PC or a radiator.
3. Remove the battery from thelaptop. (Shift the battery lock and pull
battery pack out.)
4. Remove the control Panel (usea razor or a flat butter knife ) push the
knife downward gentle and tilt itabout 30
o
outward to release clips and
left panel. Repeat the process onthe other side till the entire panel is
freely removed
5. Remove the panel to expose thesingle screw that secures the keyboard.
6. undo the screw to free thekeyboard and lift the Keyboard gently
7. Undo the clip that holds thekeyboard connector Ribbon in place this
would completely free thekeyboard. Remove the Keyboard. To unveil a

I have Acer Laptop with a JV50PU motherboard which has a faulty DC input socket connection. The laptop works OK on Charged battery but not on DC input. Is it possible to get a schematic of the motherb

If the DC Power Jack is soldered onto the motherboard then take the time to unsolder it and remove it. Then buy another DC Power Jack which costs less than $8.00 and solder it into it's place. Normally when it is soldered onto the motherboard there is no cable involved. That's all there is to it if it's soldered onto the motherboard.

If it sits on a slot in the motherboard and has a cable harness attached to it then you can purchase that too for less than $15.00. All you do then is follow where the other end of the cable harness plugs into the motherboard and unplug it. Then place the new dc jack in the slot where the old one sat and plug the other end of the cable harness into the motherboard.

It's has a colder solder or bad connection at the power jack - Acer's are notorious for this problem. It's a bad design. They have a tendencies to break easily if you tug too hard on the cable. The only way to fix this is to dissect the entire laptop and re-solder or replace the power jack.

DC Jack diagnosis:
1. Test power adapter for output voltage. Bend the power cable in various directions while doing this to be sure that there is no broken conductors in the cable.
2. If power adapter is Ok, connect it & see if the power LED on the laptop will glow when you jiggle the power connector in various directions. If yes, then the DC jack might be loose or damaged, & need to be either re-soldered or replaced.
3. If not, then disassemble the laptop. Remove any components that attach to the laptop's motherboard first (e.g. battery, hard drive, RAM, wireless card, optical drive, ... etc.)
4. Next, remove the keyboard & the LCD screen.
5. Finally, unscrew all screws that hold the upper cover & lower cover together so that you could gain access to the motherboard.
6. Inspect the solder points connecting the DC jack to the motherboard. Make sure that none of them is loose. If any, re-solder them.
7. Inspect the center pin in the DC jack. Make sure that it is not broken or loose. If it is, then you might need to replace the DC jack.
8. When you are done, re-assemble back the laptop.

I hav a hp nx6120 but doesnt switch and wen you plug in the charger its no lighting

Take a look at the back of the laptop. Is the gold power pin still there or is it now stuck in in the end of the power brick cord?

HP actually extended the wty on these machines because of the
power pin issues. If the power pin is missing you will need to have the machine serviced. Out of wty, replacement power pins are easy to solder on the board if this is the issue.

If your pin is still there... Your AC cord or power brick may be the next things to check. Connecting them to a meter will tell you if there is power. Try moving the cords to check for shorts in the wires.

If your AC cord and brick are good, try pulling the battery. Your laptop can run off AC only. Batteries with bad cells can sometimes prevent the machine from powering up.

If its still not powering up after all of that, there may be an issue with the motherboard in the machine.

It is possible that it could be a bad solder joint. It could also be that the connector is a different one. Some laptops use a dual voltage power structure. On the Inspiron E1505 (same as the 6400) I have it requires the dual voltage power. This is where the outside of the plug is the ground and the inside of the plug is one voltage and the center pin is yet another voltage. In this case, (if I remember correctly) the inside of the plug is like 19.5 volts and the center pin is like 9 volts. The inside of the plug supplies the power to the laptop and charging circuit and the center pin tells the laptop that the power adapter is plugged in and should start charging. If the laptop recognizes the Vostro power supply then this is a good possibility. Either way, it is worth getting it checked out. The last thing you want to do is burn out the charge circuit on the motherboard by having the incorrect power supply plugged in to it. It may work for a while or it may work forever but you never know.

Broken power connect plug

The pin assembly is available online and usually runs between $10-$20. A quick Google should find you multiple sources for the part. It's not a hard job to do, just be careful when you are soldering the new assembly to the motherboard. And get a decent cable retention device after you fix your system, that way you won;t have that problem again.

This is what I use and recommend.

No power

A broken power pin is quite common on laptop computers. The pin gets damaged from plugging and unplugging the cord plus all the daily tugs and pulls on the cord. The cumulative damage breaks the connection from the power pin connector to the motherboard.

If you are mechanically inclined the repair can be made pretty easily. The pin usually runs anywhere from $5 - $15. It's the labor at a shop that is expensive ($99 - $250 or more).

Once you get the system repaired get a Cable Retention device and use it religiously so the problem doesn't reoccur.

Here's a video about the problem and the JerkStopper AC Cable Retention kit.

Laptop will not power on.

Hi,

It is possible that one of the soldered terminals/pins of the power jack of the laptop is disconnected. You can try gently moving the plug of the Charger/AC adapter while connected and see if an indicator light will lit (even if momentarily). If yes, then it is safe to assume that a terminal/pin is loose and would need to be resoldered. If no, then since there is power from the Charger/AC adapter, the laptop's internal circuitry maybe at fault. Most probably parts in the regulator circuitry. This could be as simple as a surface mounted fuse or a 3 terminal voltage regulator. In any case, the unit has to be opened and diagnosed. To do so, you must be familiar with electronic components/circuitry, use of a DVM and a low wattage soldering iron. Should you be uncomfortable with this, perhaps your best bet would be to seek the services of a qualified laptop technician.

Hope this be of some idea/help. Post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.
