Question about Faucets

1 Answer

Eljer lavatory faucet will not shut off. Chrome knob is stuck.

I cannot get access to the faucet stem.I have pushed in the retainer, but cannot remove the chrome knob. Have drilled a hole just above the retainer and flooded inside with liquid wrench. Has sat for several weeks with more liquid wrench added. Called plumber thinking they might have a special removal tool. But, no. The plumber left because he could not remove. I am considering making a hack saw cut above the retainer, hoping i can insert a flat tool and pry the inside brass piece from the chrome. Suggestions appreciated.

Having same problem with eljer chrome shower knob not coming off. Even with pulling on the knob while holding the pin in and having a 2nd person banging a wrench on the back side of the knob, no luck. If I pull any harder I'm afraid of breaking the brass screw inside or pulling the whole unit out of the wall. Please let me know if you've found a solution.

Is your model a wide spread (8" center)? What is a description of the retainer you refer to and where is it in relation to the handle?

use baking soda to remove the corrosion mix a little in apaper cup and brush on with toth brush

I do not have a clear picture but can you not put two screw drivers under the lip of the chrome and pry up

One other thought is to tap the top adapter with a hammer to see if it will break loose

Turn the water off at the shut under the sink and open both faucets to drain line. Remove faucet handle and stem and look inside. There's probably something jamming the stem from turning. Remove that and reassemble.

Handles are completely stuck. I'm thinking due to Calcium build up. Can't move then at all.

remove the chrome covers from the handle and loosen the nut that pushes the seal around the stem to keep it from leaking. Then try turning the handles. if they still don't turn, take the nut all the way out and remove the stem from the faucet. This will allow you to wire brush all of the corrosion off the faucets. Use a good plumbers grease and put it on the stems before replacing them. do not overtighten brass nut.
