Question about Zebra P330i Thermal Card Printer

Open Question

Zebra p330i ribbon snapping after sticks to card

The printer has been idle for about a year. New ribbon was put in, new cards put in, short and long cleaning cards were done.

I did not clean the rollers/head directly, as we do not have the foam cleaners.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks

Well, aparantly, I needed to clean the track area and the rollers. After that the sticking/breaking of the ribbons stoped. I also downloaded the most recent firmware/driver which allowed me to recalibrate the ribbon.

    This step solved my problems.

SOURCE: What does a Polaroid p85igc card printer use for a

The "i"suffix was introduced in around 2005 to try to stop patent infringements on the printer ribbons. They introduced a chip on the spool that feeds back to the printer. The chip has to be the correct coding for the badge of the printer. Zebra P330i printers are essentially the same as Javelin J330i and Polaroid p85igc but have three different part numbers for their YMCKO ribbon. You can run any monochrome ribbon on them because the mono ribbons have no chip.....not much profit for the brand owners. YMCKO however is not interchangeable. Find a Polaroid dealer for the full colour ribbon.

SOURCE: keep getting broken ribbon message on zebra P330i printer

Hello, assuming the supplies are Zebra and there is no discernible damage to the ribbon, it could mean that the ribbon sensor on the printer is broken. if your printer is still under warranty you can ship back to Zebra (Illinois) to get it repaired. The zebra website has info on how to return printers for service. Hope this helps.

Card cutting ribbon on Zebra P330i

On the front of the head. 4 screws are there.
Near the head where the ribbon contacts the card.
Loosen the top 2. Let the metal guard slide down a bit. Tighten the screws. Try a card.
Keep adjusting the guard until you tune it right.

Just a note, you need to be careful when sending the !SA command, as in some of the earlier firmware versions pre v1.16.11 , it can "double count" the i-series chip contained in the ribbon. So for example if you run the !SA command with a new ribbon with 200 prints remaining, it is possible after 100 prints the chip has counted down and the printer displays "OUT OF RIBBON" even though you have half a ribbon left.
I would use the following procedure to recalibrate the colour sensor only:-
1). Remove ribbon and lock the printhead down
2). Send the command !CSA_0 (Where "_" represents a space) - allow this stage to complete
3). Insert the ribbon and lock the printhead down.
4). Send the command !CSA_1 (Where "_" represents a space) - allow the calibration to complete.
This has works for me 99% of the time where the sensor array is faulty.
