Samsung DCS Compact: How to connect MOH

I can't figure out how to connect my MOH player to the Samsung DCS Compact. I cannot locate a schematic of the system and find no RCA jack (or any type of jack) to connect to. The system description states that MOH is a standard capability without the need for the MISC-1 or MISC-2 cards.

My previous system was a Samsung Prostar 816+ which had a jack on the side of the KSU.

Does anyone have any experience with the Samsung DCS compact or know how I would obtain a schematic? Samsung no longer offers support info on it's website.

Thanks,
Dave

    Mike,

Thank you for taking time to reply to my question. I am the end user of the system with a little knowledge of phone systems as I have owned and maintained them over the past 20 years. I understand programming and some of the components of the system and how and what they do.

I do have the DCS Compact with one SLI, one DLI, one 4COP and one RAM pack. I have downloaded all the Programming Guides for the DCS Compact. I have also looked at the Installation Manuals for other Samsung systems on the site you mentioned. However, there is no Installation Manual for the DCS Compact. Other Install Manuals identify the TRK-A and TRK-A1 (or varients of TRK) but do not show schematics. I can't find any card labeled as TRK on the DCS Compact. Could it be labeled differently? Do you know if a schematic is available?

Note: I do not see any "punch downs" in the unit. Could they be on the mainboard or the power supply board?

    Thanks in advance!

    Hi Dave,

I'm pretty sure I can help if you will tell me which system you have. If you do have the DCS Compact then the MOH connects to the TRK-A or TRK-A1 card on the R/BL - BL/R pairs. You can find manuals for your Samsung at www.wedophones.com . Click on Manuals, scroll down to Samsung, click and scroll to your system type. Good Luck, ......Mitelmike

I have a copy of the Prostar DCS Compact manual and have done a little bit of work on the system myself. While I have not hooked up the MOH feature I can tell you what terminals you need to hook up to. The wires you need to attach should be at 37 and 38 on the punch panel, Y-BR and BR-Y respectively. Hook the negative side of the audio line to Y-BR (37) and positive to the other. Let me know if you need the info on programing the MOH. I can look that up too.

Hope this helps.

Make sure you shut the power off to the KSU before messing around in the terminal block (punch panel).

Hi Dave,
Sorry I've been out of town and I'm just catching up. I looked at the info I sent to you and eventhough it is under the heading of Compact I think it is for a Prostar. The info is under the DCS heading and is called " DCS Technical Manual August 1995" Pages 186, 187, 197 and 200. I have not given up and I'm looking through my other reference materials but you are right, there are a lot of user and programming guides but no installation guides. I'll keep trying, so do not give up. "Talk" to you soon ....Mitelmike

Beeps on hold on Samsung IDCS 100

On the system 100, you have to go into system under technician level programming and set it to trunk MOH=371 and station MOH=371 . the out put from the MOH device is punched down on the first punch block that the first 8 stations are on, generally the yellow orange pair. If you want to continue I will get you the information you need to install it. Keep in mind, I do not know if the default system password for technician level programming has been changed or not.

The TDA cabinet has at least 2 jacks, labelled EPG and MOH. Guess what MOH means :-)

I don't know about cost effective, but you can get an MP3 player or use a spare PC to stream MOH music to your phone system at prices starting as little as $29.

http://www.onholdstore.com/onholdsystems.html lists players that sell for $140-200, and the Software tab gets you Message Studio to make your own MOH productions. It includes free music and voices.

Outside of that, use the keywords MUSIC ON HOLD and you will see tons of prices and alternatives.

Paging

Pair 6 of an A1 trunk card is the MOH input.

There are 2 sets of dry contacts for paging. First, pair 8 is the speaker, then 9&10 and 11&12 form 2 sets of dry contacts in the NC NO skip COMMON sequence.

On hold Music

On the Prostar 816 the MOH is connected to the BK-OR/OR-BK wires of the Female connector on the Base Champ Connector. You will need to connect the Headset jack connector to this location, that means cutting off the headset/ear piece from the wire and terminating it to the BK-OR pair of wires. Then MMC 309 and 408 are used to program the music on hold source to the stations and trunks.
