Question about Kirby Generation 3 Bagged Upright Vacuum

Motor problem I just picked up a screw. It appears to be stuck in motor. The sound of the motor changed to a whirring noise and it started to smoke. How can i access the motor?

First six pictures HERE will let you know how to remove shell to see the motor. I would not recommend starting it before you get the screw out (you will need to remove 5 more screws from the front f the unit to get the fan case off). The fan case is glued so you may need to use screw driver and pray the fan case of the unit. If fan is damaged - remove it from Kirby as damaged fan is out of balance and Kirby will vibrate like crazy. Shaft has opposite thread so you have to turn it CLOCKWISE.
If the fan does not come off easily you may have to remove this part and access the rear of the motor where you can use a wrench to hold the armature (you will see where you can hold it right behind the commutator. Removing slide bracket assembly memorize where the wires are plugged in and how it is engaged with the transmission.

God Luck

you might have picked up a hard object like a dime or screw that won't go into the bag. Pill out the brush and shake it downward and look for something falling out.

Hoover vacuum started smoking

Sounds like the roller became stuck and the motor burnt the belt into. I worked on Hovers for years and that is the most common problem.

Samsung vcu366 making loud noise but picks up

what does the really loud noise sound like? Is it a loud, whining sound? if so, the motor may be getting ready to go out. Also check that the belt isn't stuck-though you would smell burning rubber if that were the case.

My Dyson is making a really strange loud sound. It appears to be working. I just took it apart and cleaned the filter and the wand. When I put everything back together, it started making a heavy whirring...

Check the tips of the beater bar. I "bumped" mine to hard and broke a tip. Still worked! Just noisy. Called Dyson support and they sent me a new one no charge. Note. Mine had a loud whirring and a vibration.

Was hoovering when my DC04 made a funny high pitched noise then a whirring noise, this was accompanied by a smell of burning and a puff of smoke! Almost sounds like it might be a clutch slipping, is this...

OK... the DC04 doesn't have a clutch. My best guess is that the belt that drives the brush roll has broken. The smell of burning and smoke puff were probably caused by the motor suddenly speeding up when freed of its burden of driving the brush roll. For illustrated guidance on checking (and if necessary changing) the belt, go to www.dysonmedic.com then scroll to the bottom of the page and click on "DC04 Belt Change Guide".
I hope this helps. If so, please remember to rate this response. If not, please post a reply and I'll try again. Good luck!

Vacuum sounds like an airplane after 1 year of use.

the motor bearings are starting to fail most likely. You can diagnose the source of the noise by removing the brushroll and belt, could possibly be the brushroll bearings but if you still get the noise when the belt is off its the motor.

Loud 'drilling' noise from motor area when turned on.

Sounds like bad bushings/bearings in the motor -- need to replace them.

Noise

What does this noise sound like? If it's a squealing noise, chances are that it is a belt going bad. You can purchase a new belt at your local Sears, or probably even your local grocery/department store. The vacuum belt is easy to replace and inexpensive. Instructions for belt replacement are in the owner's manual, or sometime on the belt's package. Hope this helps... Please take a few seconds to rate how helpful this suggestion was. Thanks and good luck!

sounds like the motor burned up. not sure if travel adapters will handle a large load like a motor, around 8 or amps. power needs in US are 110 volts ac, 60 hertz.
I believe UK is 220 volts and 50 hertz.
usually when a vac is brought to europe you must change motor.
