Some laptops have a physical switch for turning on / off your wifi adapter. You will need first determine if this is the case for your laptop and turn the device ON. Next, the following link should walk you through the process of setting the connection up: http://www.ehow.com/how_5132362_enable-wireless-windows-xp.html
You haven't provided us with much information, but I'd suggest a couple of things: Check to see if your wireless adapter in the computer is turned on or off. Some computers have a little switch on the front or side that turns the wireless on. If on, somewhere on the computer there should be a small light lit up indicating that the wireless is on. If there is no switch, then the wireless adapter may be turned on or off by a keyboard combo of the Fn key plus one of the special function keys. That particular key will have a little icon that resembles an antenna on it. If you are unable to solve the problem by using the switch, try to do a system restore back to when it was working.
First, we need to identify the problem, it can be either with your laptop or with your Wireless router or with your Internet service provider.
so, first Step 1. please check whether you have "switched ON" the wireless on your acer laptop or not.(there may be a On /OFF switch on the laptop itself) Step2. check weather you are able to connect to internet with wires or not? (which means that you need to bypass your wireless router and directly connect the cable to your acer laptop) If you are able to connect to internet through wires but not wirelessly then follow the rest of the steps.. Step 3. check whether your wireless is connected in the correct fashion or not... for that view the 2 videos which i have attached in this solution. Step4. if the above steps do not work then it could be that your laptop or it's driver configuration are not OK. you can then insert the "DRIVER" disk which came with your laptop and install the wireless driver again.
Here are the Videos....
If still issue is unresolved then please ask me again, i'll be ready to help.
The wireless card has dropped the IP address, to get the wireless router to issue the wireless card with a new IP address, right click on the wireless connection (the one with the red X) and left click on Repair.
When the red X disappears then you can connect to the Internet.
you need to try
1) check bios aetup screen thereis setting wireless enable/disable
and check xp control panel--system--device manager wireless driver no yellow triangle mark( which need update driver)
2) check wireless switch at laptop frront or right side, set to "on" to make sure the wireless light not on. if wireless indicate light still black means your wireless card out of works, check wireless card by open small back cover clean pins and reinstall it again
3) finally you might need change a wireless card.
the model of laptop...if its Toshiba, hp or sony it likely has a switch on side of it.. or could be like dells fn and f2 keystroke (hold fn hit f2) a wifi light turns on then refresh wifi list. make sure u have at least 2 or 3 green bars in xp also if a tool took over the wireless configuration then it wont show any. (check box in advanced settings "let windows manage my wireless connections")
YOu should have on and off switch for wireless in your system..you ca try that..it will show all the wireless connections..AND if you are using Windows XP then you can go to Start->Connect to ->Wireless network connection..!!
