Amana BX22RW Freezer Compartment Icing

The freezer compartment keeps icing up near an area where the gasket appears to not be making good contact. Is it the gasket or possibly some other faulty component. Any possible fixes without needing to change gasket? What if i try to seal the gap with vaseline or short piece of weatherstrip?

Re: amana BX22RW Freezer Compartment Icing

1. Loosen the gasket screws and carefully adjust it.
2. Re-tighten the screws.
3. Lubricate the vertical gasket on the hinge side of the unit with vasoline.
4. Also lube the first 3 inches of gasket horizontally coming away from the hinge side of the door.
5. I noticed on my own Amana BX22RW the plastic air grill at the bottom of the unit interferes with the freezer gasket if this grill is installed upside down. The difference is only about 1/8th" and there doesn't seem to be an "up" mark on the grill. Install yours both ways and mark it with a permanent mark if you find one way is better. (You'll need to get down on the floor and "eyeball along the bottom of the door gasket with the door closed in order to determine if there is interference.)

Ya hit it right on the head. Sounds like a classic "pulling in moisture" problem. See if you can seal that air leak any way you can. That moisture can freeze up air channels and block the refer compartment from getting cool air from the freezer compartment eventually.

We changed our damaged freezer gasket but the top section is still icing up though it does hold the set temperature

Are you sure that the gasket is sealing perfectly all around - a properly installed gasket will minimize air and moisture getting into compartment and minimize icing up.

Icemaker keeps sending out cubes after let go of switch. Had to lock it off. Now inside of freezer is icing up.

Please check if the freezer door gasket is sealed properly.
By switch do you mean the lever on the front of the door.
Check also the small door where the ice cubes go threw. Make sure it is closed.

Refrigerator warm freezer too cold

If you have already adjusted the controls for temperatures in both compartments and allowed 12 - 24 hours to stabilize and the trend is continuing, there may be a problem with the fans that move the cold air from the freezer to the fresh food compartment. The fridge may also start allowing temperatures to rise in the freezer soon, too.

All of these problems originate in the freezer compartment, where the cooling is done. Behind the back wall; inside the freezer - lies the cooling coils, defrost heater, circulating fan(s) and defrost terminator sensor. Unplug the fridge. Empty the contents of the freezer, remove the ice maker assembly and the back wall plate and you should see these components. If it looks like a large block of snow and ice, the problem is with the defrost circuit components. If clear with a minimal amount of frost, the warm fridge is the result of blocked or limited airflow from this area to the fresh food compartment - likely a failed circulating fan. Plug the fridge back in and check to see if the fan is running - since the fridge is warm, it should be running. The fan or the thermostat will probably need replacing if it is not.

If icing or frost is the problem, you'll need to isolate and replace one or more of the following: defrost heater, defrost terminator or defrost timer. The last two are the usual suspects for this type of failure - but the heating element can fail too. Many times, the defrost timer is accessible from the front of the fridge, behind the kick plate below the freezer door on the right side. Other times it is located in or near the temperature control area.

Good luck!

Amana refrigerator, bottom freezer. Back keeps icing up. I have unplugged and thawed it twice, within 2 weeks it is frozen again and freezer warm

This is a defrost problem most likely caused by a defective defrost thermostat. It is located in the freezer compartment behind back wall on top right hand side of coils and usually has a brown and an orange wire connecting to it. It should have continuity when checking with a volt/ohm meter when it is frozen and read open when it is warm.
I have seen many of the newer electronic temperature model bottom mounts with defective control boards as well that cause the fridge to skip the defrost cycle.
Good luck!

Candy fridge freezer the fridge part keeps icing up on the back of thr compartment why is this

Sounds to me like the door gasket is faulty and letting moisture into the fridge section, the ice is the moisture freezing once it gets inside and it will accumulate in the coldest part of the fridge(probably the back of the fridge)cause thats where the freezer air inters the fridge section, change the door gasket and it should be fine.

Fridge compartment constantly icing up in one area... suspect fan to be the problem, also when compressor starts RCD sometimes trips! can you help?

If freezer is icing up, you might have a defrost problem. Frost free models have a heating element that is controlled by a timer to automatically defrost ice, defrost timer turns on defrost heating element every 12 hours to melt ice in freezer and allow good air flow.
You can test defrost element with an ohm meter(located inside freezer coils-will have two wires going to a plug connection), if OK replace defrost timer (located in various places depending on make and model may also be termination switch inline with element

Freezer is building up frost and refrigerator is not cold enoough

Almost certainly, you have a leak within the freezer compartment.

The cooling system will use a divertor valve to concentrate coolant to the fridge or freezer compartment - whichever is necessary to maintain selected temperatures.

If a seal within either compartment is compromised and leaks then the coolant will be excessively diverted to that area in an attempt to lower it's temperature - the other section will suffer since more coolant is diverted to the weaker area; the weaker area that is being excessively cooled will also have more moist air circulating, hence moisture will contribute to a build up of ice - exacerbating the problem.

Ensure that both fridge and freezer doors are closing properly, if they appear to be secure then also check that the seals are airtight - there should be no ice accumulating around them.

You might need to re-align the doors, or less likely, replace the door seals.

Please reply if you require further clarification or help.

Freezer Icing Up

Try contacting the hotline again and ask them if the freezer has a frost sensor on it. If it does, the sensor is not kicking the thermostat to allow for the unit to defrost.
