Question about HP PSC 1610 All-In-One InkJet Printer

1 Answer

Out of paper message displayed when there is paper available.

I have been through HP's troubleshooting guide. I have been on the internet in three chats with HP technical support people. Their soulution was to get me to purchase a cleaning kit. When that didn't work they tried to get me to upgrade to a better model witha thirty dollar discount. I'm a maintenance technician. How hard is it to get a technical service manual with troubleshooting and parts list?
I have had this printer for aprox. two years and t is not used that ard. All of a sudden it displays 'out of paper' on the printer itself and 'add more paper' displayed on my computer screen. There is paper and I use good paper made for inkjet printers.
I would immagine that there is a sensor that senses paper in the tray and it is malfuntioning. Or there are more sensors effected too. I don't know but I would like to know what my options are.

Thank you very much for your suggestion. I will try to clean the sensor this weekend but I could use some more help. There has got to be a repair manual or a discription page of how the printer comes apart. I don't want t make a mistake and damage the printer myself.

Its surely the sensor issue....if you look at your printer where the paper sits inside you will see a pick up roller....i suggest u get CO Contact cleaner with nozzle on spray the upper place of the roller don't over spry the roller as it mite damage the roller...this is where the sensor is sitting....if this doesn't work for you try to open the printer and clean this sensor directly...and at the same time view for any damage....but m certain it will be fixed if you do a through cleaning with the contact cleaner...

Its pretty hard to get a hand of the manual......but just by removing the top cover you have access to the whole printer its just that you have to be careful when you get to the lower end to the pick up area....

    all the best

    keep me posted

    Cheers

Hp laserjet 8150. i have a problem, tray 3 empty, always but have paper in tray 3

CAUSE: This error message indicates the paper present sensor flag in one of the trays does not detect paper in the tray. This could be caused by one of the following:
  • A broken sensor flag
  • The tray paper guides being set too close and restricting the paper from being pulled
  • The tray is not lifting
SOLUTION: Follow the steps below to determine the cause of a false TRAY X EMPTY message. Tray 2 empty
  1. Verify there is paper in the tray.
  2. Open the duplex unit access door just above Tray 2 on the front of the printer.
  3. Check the black-paper present flag by looking in through the duplex access door.
  4. Open and close Tray 2 and observe the tray lifting looking through the duplex unit access door.
The tray lifts but the error is still present
  1. Inspect the paper present flag on the PIU located just behind the pickup rollers. Ensure the flags are present and not damaged.
  2. Remove the tray guides from the tray and reseat them. Ensure the guides are seated correctly and are in the correct slot for the size paper in the tray. Add paper to the tray and try printing again.
  3. Try another known good tray, if available.
The tray does not lift and the error is still present
  1. Remove the tray, remove the paper in the tray, and inspect the lifting plate in the tray for damage. Ensure it will lift freely by hand.
  2. Try another known good tray if available.
Tray 3 empty
  1. Verify there is paper in the tray.
  2. Remove Tray 2.
  3. Open and close Tray 3 and verify it lifts by observing through the Tray 2 cavity.
  3. Try another known good tray if available.

  1. Remove the tray, remove the paper in the tray, and inspect the lifting plate in the tray for damage. Ensure it will lift freely by hand.
  2. Try another known good tray if available.
Tray 4 empty
  1. Verify there is paper in the tray
  2. Open Tray 4 and check for an extra **** of paper stored on the left side of the tray. This can cause the tray to stall while lifting and result in a tray empty message.
  3. Defeat the interlock in the vertical transfer unit (VTU). Open and close Tray 4 and watch the tray lift through the VTU door on the lower-right side of the printer.
NOTE: Follow troubleshooting steps for Trays 2 and 3 when working with the 2 X 500 sheet-input tray.
The tray lifts but the error is still present
  1. Check the tray guides to ensure the guides are seated corrected and are in the correct slots for the paper size in the tray.
  2. Inspect the paper present sensor for damage.
  3. Check for any broken plastic pieces in the tray that may be a broken sensor flag.
The tray does not lift and the error is still present Defeat the VTU interlock on the right side of Tray 4. Open and close Tray 4 and observe the tray lifting.

Printer will not scan pictures.

Introduction To use the scan features, the HP All-in-One and computer must be connected to each other and turned on. The HP All-in-One software must also be installed and running on the computer prior to scanning. To verify that the HP All-in-One software is running on a Windows computer, look for the HP Digital Imaging Monitor in the system tray at the lower right side of the screen, near the time. NOTE: Closing the HP Windows system tray icon can cause the HP All-in-One to lose some of its scan functionality and result in a No Connection error message. If this happens, correct it by restarting the computer or by starting the HP Image Zone software. Follow the instructions below to scan documents from the all-in-one to an application. Make a Scan Step one: Load paper
  1. Open the paper tray door. Figure 1: Opening the paper tray door c00315283.gif
  2. Pull the paper tray extender toward you, as far as it will go. Flip the paper catch at the end of the paper tray extender to open the extender the rest of the way. WARNING: Legal paper might get caught on the paper tray extender if it is fully extended when you print onto legal paper. To avoid a paper jam when using legal-size paper, do not open the paper tray extender.
  3. Squeeze and hold the tab on the top of the paper-width guide, then slide the paper-width guide to its outermost position. Figure 2: Sliding the paper-width guide to the outermost position c00315284.gif
  4. Tap a stack of paper on a flat surface to align the edges, and then check the paper for the following:
    • Make sure it is free of rips, dust, wrinkles, and curled or bent edges.
    • Make sure all the paper in the stack is the same size and type.
  5. Insert the stack of paper into the paper tray with the short edge forward and the print side down. Slide the stack of paper forward until it stops. NOTE: If using letterhead, insert the top of the page first with the print side down. For more help on loading full-size paper and letterhead, refer to the diagram engraved in the base of the paper tray. Figure 3: Inserting paper into the all-in-one c00315285.gif Squeeze and hold the tab on the top of the paper-width guide, then slide the paper-width guide inward until it stops at the edge of the paper. Figure 4: Sliding the paper-width guide to the edge of the paper c00315286.gif Do not overload the paper tray; make sure the stack of paper fits within the paper tray and is no higher than the top of the paper-width guide.
Step two: Load the original NOTE: Many of the special copying features will not work correctly if the glass and lid backing are not clean.
  1. Lift the lid and place the original face down on the left front corner of the glass, with the sides of the original touching the left and bottom edges. NOTE: For more help on loading an original, refer to the guide engraved under the glass.
  2. Close the lid.
Step three: Scan to an application NOTE: To use this feature, you must have installed the full software package and the HP Digital Imaging Monitor must be running.
  1. Press Scan on the control panel. A preview image of the scan displays in the HP Document Viewer window on the computer, where you can edit it.
  2. Click Done or Finish in the software. The HP All-in-One sends the scan to the HP Image Zone software, which automatically opens and displays the image.
NOTE: To stop scanning, press the Cancel button on the control panel, or in the HP Image Zone software, click Cancel . Have a good day,

  2. Lift the output tray.
  3. Pull out the front paper guide on the paper tray and slide the side paper guide as far to the left as it will go. Figure 3: Slide out paper guides c01489992.gif 1 - Front paper guide 2 - Side paper guide
  4. Load a stack of plain white paper, print-side down into the paper tray. Make sure the paper stack is no higher than the top of the front paper guide.
  5. Adjust the side and front paper guides to fit snugly against the paper stack. Figure 4: Adjust the side and front paper guides c01489993.gif
  6. Lower the output tray.
  7. Disengage the photo tray: On the output tray, pull the slider (visible through the output tray) away from the product until it stops. Figure 5: Disengage the photo tray c01489994.gif
  8. Try the print job again.
  • If these steps resolved the issue , there is no need to continue troubleshooting.
  • If the issue persists , continue to the next step.
Step five: Service the printer If you have completed all the steps listed above and are still experiencing a problem, service the product. Have a good day,

K5400dtn - paper feed and on buttons flashing - won't print

This usually the indicator for a paper jam or similar.

You need to check over the printer for any scraps, jams, etc.. that are stopping the paper or printhead from moving normally.

You also need to check for any lids or doors open and make sure that the duplexer in the back is locked into position properly.

I had to search hard but the flashing lights troubleshooting guide is available here on the HP website.
