Question about IBM Wheelwriter 30 Typewriter

1 Answer

Beeping problem I have a Wheelwriter 1000 that is single beeping at the 20 spot on the pica/margin scale. The manual gives help for multiple beeps, but not on a single beep, always at the same spot. Any ideas??

I would suspect that the right margin is set at that spot.
try moving the printhead to where you would like the right margin to be set, or all the way to the right if you don't need a r. mar., and hit 'R MAR'.

IBM 1500 Typewriter has started beeping once when I reach 35 on the 10 pitch scale. I have reset my margins and cleared all tabs but it still does it. It just started do it.

Have you replaced the batteries in the machine? Lift the cover and you should see a holder that usually has 3 AA batteries. You can replace them with the machine turned on. Once they are replaced, turn the machine off for a few seconds and then turn it back on. Change the margins and see if that works.

We have ibm wheelwriter 3000. When typing it makes a beeping noise. Tried to release margins, but still beeps

If it beeps on every key stroke try code "S" If it beeps once in a while it may be the spell check code "1" will turn that off. If it always beebs at the same place the R. margin is probably set there. Space all the way to the R. and press R. mar key.

How to change the pitch?

Here ya go...

Margins and Tabs
Margins and tabs for both Type Mode and Mem Mode are set in Type
Mode, but can be changed in Mem Mode when text is recalled for
editing. Margins and tabs are set using the typing scale which appears
on the display in Type Mode. A blinking cursor indicates the typing
position. The letter “L” indicates your left margin setting. The letter “R”
indicates your right margin setting.
NOTE: In Mem Mode, the margins and tabs used when the text
is created will be saved with the text and recalled with it,
even if they have been changed.
Margins
In Type Mode, to signal that you are near the right margin, the
typewriter will beep 5 spaces before the margin. In Mem Mode, the text
will wrap automatically when you print.
Margins are preset depending on the pitch setting, which is the number
of characters per inch. They are:
10 Pitch 12 Pitch 15 Pitch
(Pica) (Elite) (Micro)
Left Margin 12 14 18
Right Margin 72 86 108
New margin settings remain until changed again.
1. Move the Mode Selector to Type. A typing scale appears on
the display.
2. Move the cursor using the Spacebar or Back Space to the desired left
margin setting on the scale.
3. Press Margin.
4. Move the cursor using the Spacebar to the desired right margin
setting on the typing scale.
5. Press Code + Margin. A beep confirms each new margin setting.
6. You can change to Mem Mode, if desired.

Take care,

Types a few characters then stops typing and just beeps...

Perhaps you have the R. margin set at that point. Try resetting it at the R. end.

Beeping IBM personal wheelwriter

It could be that the right hand margin is set very close to the left margin. Try spacing way over to the right side of the typewriter and resetting the right margin there.
