WINDOWS XP I have recently purchased a second hand Emachine 220. I wanted to type a CV for a job interview but could not find the programme (windows XP is what i am looking for ?). I have been assured that Windows XP is on here but I'll be damned if i can find it! I have done a search and am getting Windows XP toolbars etc. Phil, the chap i bought it from, assured me when i bought it off him XP was on here as my old operating system had 98 on it. I know he cleared all his personal stuff off but am wondering if he accidently deleted the programme file for XP? Can anyone help please as i desperately need to get this V typed and in the post.

I think maybe you mean Office XP which is Microsoft Office supposedly built for use in Windows XP although this has various bugs and Office 2003 is much better.

Well, chum, windows XP is the operating system, not a specific program. Phil must have been a rather daft fellow to spread such tosh. I do believe what he meant to say was Windows Movie Maker. Right, hope that helps.

I want graphic drivers for AMD Athlon XP 1700+ running windows XP professional SP2..... please help me.

There is not enought information to suggest which motherboard you have. Take a look at your motherboard for the board identifier. You can also go to and download a free board analyser. This program will give you the actual idenfier for the motherboard as well as other useful information for your hardware and software.
Once you identify the motherboard, go to
to get the drivers.

Emachine T2385 Won't Boot in Normal Mode past Windows XP Screen

The first thing I would check is your video card (usually driver) problem. Start windows in safemode with networking. If this problem has occured after updating the video card driver you may try rolling back the driver to a previous version, otherwise try

Once windows starts you'll want to go to the start menu and find and click run. In the text box enter the command "devmgmt.msc" and hit enter and the device manager should appear. Look for display adapters and left click the + and you should see your video card. Right click the video card and select properties from the drop down menu. Select thr driver tab. Now if the problem had occured after updating the driver, choose rollback the driver from the menu. If not try selecting the update driver option. After updating/rolling back the driver you'll want to try restarting in normal mode.

If it still won't start in normal mode you can try troubleshooting the video card under the general tab in properties, though to be honest I've found this rarely usefull but it might help you. Otherwise you'll want to make sure that your videocard is enabled in BIOS. A quick totorial of BIOS if needed,1126.html.

Otherwise it's likely a physical issue with the graphics card. Since you've tried reseating the card already it may be that the card is damaged and will need to be replaced.

Pc is restarting but doesn't show the log on screen

It sounds like your Windows Installation is corrupt. If there isn't anything you need on the drive, I would get a Windows XP CD (Look on the side of your case for a Windows Key, Get that version of the CD) Then I'd use that windows XP CD to wipe the drive and Re-install windows. If there is Data on the drive you need, You will need to invest in either a second HD, or You need to Install Windows on a Second HD and boot from that if you already have a second HD.

How to upgrade win 95 to winxp without removing files installed

A computer running Windows 95 WILL NOT RUN Windows XP in most cases. Post all of your hardware details and we can explore that further.

Most programs that run on Windows 95 WILL NOT RUN under Windows XP easily. There are some compatibility things you can try for each one, but most simply will crash, and some will seem to work for a while then crash at inopportune moments.

What you should do is buy an newer computer with Windows XP, remove your current hard drive, and put your current hard drive as a second drive in the new computer. You will have access to your documents, but your programs will not run.

Sound driver

usually the sound card are built-in on the mobo(motherboard), try checking the model and brand of the mobo and download the sound/audio drivers of it.

You may want to check device manager and see if the computer detects that there is a audio controller on the system. then install the drivers.

Hooking my emachine monitor with compac tower

Make sure that you are connecting to the video output on your Compaq that is configured (such as a PCI video card versus the integrated Graphics on your MoBo) and when reconnecting monitors, make sure the machine is powered down before connecting or disconnecting.
Since you say that "the only thing that show up is the arrow button", I assume you are referring to your cursor, and if that is correct? You're PC would be attempting to boot to windows and there may be a hardware conflict that may be stalling it. There could also be corruption in the windows installation. But the monitor should be simple "Plug and Play".
More details about your Graphics Card and any recent hardware software changes/occurrences that have taken place would help.
Good luck.

Petium 3 processor with windows xp

Just a bit of information. Your slow speed reguards to DSL is bull. Unless your ISP requires your system to run a min Mhz cpu. Cant really suggest how high you can up your cpu unless we know the model of the board & it wouldn't hurt to know the bios version too. Here is a small list from Fixya of Dells & Pent III.
