Problem with scanner and printer

The message in the window is "Scanner failure
Turn power off and then on again"
I can print if directed off the computer, but not if I want to print something from the machine itself (on the glass).

Frequently it will not make copies but will print with no problems. It seems to only copy when it is first turned on and cool.

I have the same 'Scanner failure' error. It says to turn power off then on again.

It will NOT scan, nor will it copy. But I can print to it all day, and that works fine.

I will try the other guy's suggested solution by ss0304 and hope that fixes my problem...? I too, was about to go buy another scanner/printer unit.

I also took the unit apart, and cleaned the mirrors. There did appear to be red ink on one end of the mirror. But after cleaning all mirrors, the scanner is still behaving the exact same way. It won't copy or scan. If anyone else has another solution, I would love to hear it. My unit still prints fine. It just won't scan...?

FYI, the small screws on the back of the PSC750 seem to be a small international size allen wrench. I almost stripped the first one, when trying to use a small screwdriver head. Then I tried a small allen wrench, and realized that it was slightly off... so after trying an international set, it fit just right, and I was able to remove the screws. Cleaning the mirrors didn't help my scanning problem, but at least it was something to try. Good luck to others.

Same problem here with the scanner error, but I also have problems with the black ink. It says incorrect ink cartidge installed. I bought a double pack of #15 ink, and neither of them worked. Same error. I can put the old cartridge back in without getting the error prompt however. I took the entire unit apart from top to bottom. It was absolutely caked in the inkbay where the cartidges rest when in the park position. I was certain that cleaning it was going to fix it. To my dismay it solved nothing. I have looks at hundreds of posts, contacted HP support & have found zero resolutions & this error appears all over the internet on forums and DIY sites. If anyone anywhere can be of help, please post! I'm in dire straights!

I had the same problem and someone on this site provided a solution and so far it works! I've trawled and tried everything and was about to give up and go any buy a new printer/scanner and throw this one away - but no need. It's a good printer, but finally have a solution.

1. lift up the scanner lid and then remove it from the hinges (pull towards you and it should easily come off)
2. in the back of the printer, there are 2 small screws. Remove them. I used a very small headed flat screwdriver. Keep an eye on them as they will fall out and you don't want to lose them.
3. OK - now a little bit of gentle muscle and pryinbg is required. What we need to do now is to remove all of the grey cover. Stand back and see all the grey cover? It's one piece and we need to remove it. The back will come off as the screws are removed. Try and pry the front of by pushing and pulling. Use a bit of strength to get it off but read step 4 quickly!
4. The cover is connected to a white ribbon - don't remove it. You will need to set the the cover to the right but make sure where you set the cover is at the same height of the printer or the ribbon will come out. Put some books or other things to the side of the right side of the printer and when the cover is off just move the cover to the stack of books.
5. on the right side, you will see a black cover. It's hard plastic and has 2 big squares and 2 small rectangles. You need to remove this. either use a small screw driver to pry it or use your fingers.
6. You'll see the mirrors exposed. Clean them with Qtips. Clean the glass as well as it's off. Keep the black cover somewhere safe but not in the printer.
7. put the glass cover / grey cover back on from FRONT to back.
8. Put the screws back in.

Hope this helps. Again, someone else had the solution and I can't seem to find the page where he put it as I wanted to say "thanks". Hopefully whoever has the similar problem can solve it with this.

Good luck!

You need to change the pcb inside the scanner itself.... ....but this is hard to get you will probably need to replace the whole scanner unit

How do I solve the "scanner failure power off and on again" message for an h.p. 6110 officjet all-in-one printer/scanner/fax?

Hi Paul,

Scanner Failure usually results in Hardware Failure. However there is one step you can try. Try connecting the printer directly to wall outlet or any other power outlet and the issue should be resolved.

My HP Photosmart C5240 will print from computer but will not scan or make copies.

Is there any error message displayed on the control panel of the printer just like one of the following:
Scanner failure, power off and on
Scanner System Failure
Scanner failed, cannot make copies or fax
Scanner failure. Unable to scan, copy, or send a fax
Scanner failure, cycle power

You may want to try following these steps:
1. Check if the scanner light does turn on when you initiated the scanning process, if not you need to reset the product.
2. Try using your other electrical outlet because your AVR or Surge Extension may not be providing enough voltage for the printer.
3. Try using dirty cycle, meaning you need to directly cut the power of your printer by pulling of the power cord from the rear side of your printer and wait for about 30 seconds before inserting again and turn it on.

If all these steps do not improve your printer functionality, you may want to call the HP online help and ask for replacement.

After printer is on for a few minutes, getting error message-scanner failure turn printer off then on again. I am able to print before the error message appears, however, unable to copy or fax. Thank...

Hi,

Solution one: Check the scanner light
  1. Follow these steps to check the scanner light by making a color copy of any document.
  2. Load plain white, unused, letter size paper in the paper tray.
  3. Lift the scanner lid, place the original face down on the scanner glass, and then lower the scanner lid.
  4. Make a color copy.
  5. When the product starts to scan the document to copy, slightly lift the scanner lid to see if the scanner light turns on. It is not necessary to lift the lid completely.
The scanner light should be visible under the scanner glass to the right or left.

Solution two: Check the power connection
Follow these steps to troubleshoot the power connection.

  1. Press the Power button to turn off the product.
  2. Unplug the product power cord from any surge protector, extension cord, or power strip, and then connect the power cord directly to a wall outlet.
  3. Press the Power button to turn on the product.
  4. Load plain white, unused, letter size paper in the paper tray.
  5. Lift the scanner lid, place the original face down on the scanner glass, and then lower the scanner lid.
  6. Try again to make a color copy.
  7. Press the Power button to turn off the product, disconnect the power cord from the wall outlet, and then reconnect the power cord to a different wall outlet.
  8. Press the Power button to turn on the product.
Try again to make a color copy.If these steps resolved the issue , you do not need to continue troubleshooting. If the issue persists we have to reset the printer. Doing reset in the beginning stage is not recommended. Reply me back and i will provide the reset step instruction.

Try to print--scanner failure appears

I think your printer has been, for some time now, trying to tell you something and the scanner failure message
is the last in a series of messages.

First, the copier and the printer and the scanner worked fine, "for years",
Then, the copier stopped accepting scans, while printing from data sent by your computer.
Then, you received a scanner failure message again, and will not accept data from your computer, and
"won't print at all"

Your printer/scanner/copier/fax has needed service for some time after years of continuous service.

Evaluate now, based on its initial cost and the lesser cost of All In Ones whether you have already
obtained sufficient service to amortize the cost over time, and you may conclude that service is eitherr
cost effective or ineffective at this time.

Scanner Failure

The only thing I can surgest is that you check installed programs I found that the 750 is very fussy about being the only kid on the block. Maybe worth trying a commercial program that says it will remove "junk" from your hard drive

Office Jet K60xi Scanner Failure

Try HP's web site suggestions first.
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01077492&cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&product=61736

If your sacnner still fails to function, uninstall everything for the Officejet through add/remove in control panel. (Power off printer before uninstalling).
Go to Hp's web site. http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/welcome.html#Support
Step 1. Click, Download drivers and software (and firmware).
Go to step 2. For product, type in Officejet k60xi .
Power on your printer. (Wait for printer to fully power on).
Click, Start Detection>> button.
Allow HP to scan your system & install the latest software.
Follow the on scren instructions. (When finished, restart your PC). Test your scanner by scanning something.
If your scanner still fails to scan, you may be missing basic HP files loaceted in windows system & windows system32 folders.
(These missing files were not installed during your install of windows). Not your fault.
