Question about Compaq Presario Notebook

HP Compaq plugged in & blue light on but icon says NOT plugged in

Hello hello hello experts. Urgent problem at hand..

I've got an HP Compaq Presario V6000 laptopthat's 2 years old. It is plugged in and the blue charge light is onaround where you plug the cord in (when I unplug the power cord theblue light turns off ) yet the icon on my desktop is saying it'srunning on battery life only and not plugged in at all. The laptopitself is functioning right now but the battery % is dwindling despitebeing plugged in. The block thing in the middle of the power cord(where you plug one part of the power cord into) isn't cold and I knowthat generally gets quite warm after the power cord has been plugged infor awhile (and it had been plugged in all night). Any ideas???

    Do I need a device to check the power output of the adapter? (If so I have none :X )

    Another tidbit of info is I've tried in multiple outlets and nothings worked.

    Will resetting the battery/removing it from the laptop empty its battery life?
    The reason I ask is that if I need to buy a new power cord I want to try and stretch my battery life
    as long as possible to do any absolutely essential things.

    Okay I removed the battery but no go. It wouldn't turn on with the adapter even though the blue light around the charger is lit.

    Alright I was looking through the HP support page and I found this section here:



    Troubleshoot the System Board
    If you've verified that the AC power functions properly, troubleshoot the PC's system board by following the steps below.





    1. Remove the battery, and keep the notebook connected to AC power.



    2. Press and release the
      Power
      button
      to start the computer.



      • If the notebook PC powers
        on
        , then the AC adapter and system board are functioning properly. Go to
        Troubleshoot the battery

        .




      • If the Power LED is
        off
        , then the AC power adapter needs to be replaced. Contact HP Service and Support for further assistance.




      • If the power LED is
        on
        , but the notebook PC does not power on, then the notebook PC needs to
        be repaired. Contact HP Service and Support for further assistance.





    3. Shut down Windows by selecting
      Shut Down
      from the Start Menu.

    The italicized 3rd bullet is my case.
    When I had the battery out and the adapter plugged in the power LED was on
    but the computer wouldn't do anything.

    So I think I've learned my problem is with my PC :(

Check power out put of the adapter is it giving you the correct readings
Try to remove the battery and run it from adapter itself check to see if its working
Reset the battery ..by removing it from the system

    Removing the battery wont deplete its battery life...try to remove the battery..and switch on using the adapter....keep me posted.....

    try to back up your most important data for now in case you run out on power

The motherboard of your laptop might have encountered a short circuit. If you've already removed and reseated all possible removable parts and still get the same result, purchase a replacement motherboard or check if it is still under warranty.

I am opening my pc and after 2 second it went off i have a blinking light like a orange flash light


I imagine the orange flashing light is over the battery? The compaq laptops have a little blue light that will typically light up when it's plugged into the wall. If it is plugged in ensure that the little blue light is on. If it isnt you may have a n issue with your power supply unit, or there may be an issue with the port where the plug is plugged in. Thus causing the battery to be dead and the computer not power on. If you have any other compaq computers you can also try plugging in that power adapter, or try picking up a universal or another hp/compaq charger from somewhere such as best buy to test it out.

Try restoring the system to the last best configuration by going to Accessories on your Start Menu and clicking on System Tools>System Restore and find a day on the calendar and click on it to restore back to that date.
