My Samsung HL-R5087W Pedestal DLP has a black screen. Replaced the bulb still black. Goes through startup -- get smiley face -- here the whirr-- no pix, no sound no triangle, returns to standby.

Listen closely. The tv should make a high pitch whine as it turns on. If it does wait and see if it tries this a few times. If yes then check the bulb, I have seen cases where the lamp shoves the power connector back into the set. If the tv starts with a grown or heavy vibration noise, then your color wheel may have broken and needs replaced.

There are three possible parts causing the problem. First, the Main or Digital bd is bad, Second, the DMD bd is bad. Third the Color Wheel is bad. You need a trained Samsung tech to have a look at it.

Check the capacitors on the power supply first. If any have domed tops or signs of leakage, replace them. I had two go bad on mine. Call electronics parts supply stores first as these are not your average capacitors.
