A PCMCIA Netword adapter/card will fit into this slot. This adapter is used for wired or Ethernet connection of the laptop to the network.

Hope this helps!

Is there any way to connect to wireless internet with this kind of computer or whether need to other hardware .thank you.best regards.

The easiest way to connect to a wireless internet connection is to purchase a wireless networking card that fits in the PCMCIA slot. I would recommend a Linksys Adapter (WPC54G).

Wirless card

Yes you need to get a wireless card.
It can be a USB wireless device or a PCMCIA card type, I suggest a PCMCIA wireless card because it is robust and does not use up a USB port.
To set-up the wireless router securely and the wireless card, please refer to my instruction - click on this link :-

System: Compaq presario 2100 Intel. Disassembled the computer to fix the battery/power jack that is connected to the motherboard. My pcmcia/CISCO wireless card is not working since I fixed the computer,...

You can try using Compaq Diagnostics for Windows 95/98 for your model, there is no PCMCIA driver available on HP website for this computer.

If this is not a software problem, then it is probably a bad soldering joint that lost contact on one or more of the PCMCIA motherboard contacts.

Network card

Any type of PCMCIA network card should work okay.
Go down to Staples, Best Buy or Office Depot and find
a decent PCMCIA network card.  You should be able to find
one for under $50
