Sharp OZ-590A USB Cable Problems

I keep receiving an error that says "this program could not detect USB cable." I tried a different port, tried turning off all programs that were running, and everything in users manual. Can someone give me some advice on how to fix this. Thanks

Re: Sharp OZ-590A USB Cable Problems

Uninstall all the software you just installed and do not connect the usb device until you again run the install from OZ-590A CD. When it does not find a USB device then connect USB and it should detect it. If you don't do it in that order you won't get a connection. It should come up on COM7.

Is there any way to interace with USB

You will need 3 items to interface your Wizard with a USB port.

1. A generic USB to RS-232 adapter cable (with 9-pin serial connector, to match the connector on the OZ-730 interface cable).

2. A USB to RS-232 driver for the above cable. (If you have Windows XP: HL-340.EXE, contained in 111.rar, which can be downloaded from If you have another version of Windows, or if you have Linux, you will have to consult the documentation on to find the correct driver.

3. Software to communicate with the Wizard. You should be able to use the software that came with it, or purchase RuppLynx, or download Microsoft ActiveSync or a similar free program.

I used a cable I purchased on ebay, the HL-340.EXE driver installer, and RuppLynx software to connect an OZ-730, an OZ-570, and a Zaurus 5800 to my Windows XP laptop without any problem.

I would like to transfer the data from my OZ-770 to a more usable data base format file. Andy K.

Here is a review:

{ ... The most interesting feature of this organizer is that it can download additional programs. You can find plenty of existing programs on Sharp's web site Most of them are pretty basic and uninteresting, certainly not the same variety or commercial quality you would find for a Palm or Windows PDA, but they're free. You can find out more about programming it yourself at You can write your own programs for it on the PC in C or BASIC. It also supports an optional BASIC interpreter so that you can quickly write your own simple programs on the unit. The development kit and BASIC interpreter can be downloaded for free.

The PC interface is a serial port (19.2 kbps speed), a lot slower than USB, but not really a problem for the amount of memory on the unit. (But a potential problem for anyone with one of those new minimal PCs with only USB ports.)

The OZ-770PC package comes with a serial cable and Sharp backup software. The Sharp backup software is pretty basic. You can buy more expensive optional organizer software that supports it, and you can also find shareware on the web that supports it. It is capable of synchronizing with a PC database, ... }

Basically you export is as a text file, and then you can import it into something like Excel in order to convert it to a different format.

Where is the usb port on the the sharp wizard OZ-590A

Your phone would have came with all the associated cables it needs to connect to a PC. It's not necessarily going to have a 'USB' hole in the phone, there is an 'options' cable slot on the right hand side which will match one of the cables you received in your box, and the other end will be USB for the computer side. Make sure you install all relevant software BEFORE you plug the phone in. If you have windows vista or windows 7, make sure you run the software as administrator. Don't let the disc autorun, close it down, go into Start>computer> and right click on the disc, select 'open' or 'explore' on the disc, right click the phone software and select 'run as administrator'
