Open the door and remove four screws which go into the dryer top. Swing top back. Take out the screw on each side holding the dryer front to the side panels near the open top. Tilt the dryer front forward and lift it off the bottom pegs, then swing it to the side. Leave door switch wires connected. Lift up slightly on drum to allow the belt to be placed around drum. (grooves of WE12X82 belt touch the drum) Belt goes down from the left side of the dryer directly to the grooved motor pulley, then around the belt tensioning pulley and back to the drum. Your model has a removable panel at the bottom side of the back which will allow easy access to the motor pulley area.

Replace belt on maytag dryer lde8824ace

If it is a model where the belt goes around the drum rather than a separate pulley the drier must be dismantled far enough to allow the belt to be freed from the drum.
Belts need to be replaced so infrequently manufacturers make little provision for in-service replacement and generally the drier must be taken back to the stage in production where the belt was originally fitted.

This can be a rather extensive process with many models and in the absence of dedicated model information we often must resort to simply keep removing screws until the thing falls apart. By the time a belt needs replacing the drum bearings and/or seals are often generally in need of attention in addition that the extra work, though inconvenient and dispiriting, is rarely wasted.

MY DRYER HEATS BUT NO SPIN...HOW DO I CHANGE THE BELT

You give no clue as to the make or model of your unit.

Typically, you can pop open the top of the drier with a flat blade screw driver. Remove the two or so screws that hold the front panel on to the body and set it aside. The drum will fall free. You will then be able to see where the belt goes and how it is routed. Get a replacement belt at your local appliance parts store.

To replace the belt on GE Dryer DISR473DG1WW, we will need to open the back of the cabinet, right? Is there a repair manual showing the process? Does this dryer ship with a spare belt inside?

Hello, W/D here.
I'm not aware of any dryers shipping with a spare belt on board, but this may vary by region.
You are correct in that the back is removed to gain access to the belt. Disconnect the power first. If there isn't a spare in the cabinet (probably not), take the old belt with you to your local appliance parts supply house and get a replacement, or it may be ordered on-line. The belt number will be on the belt.
Here's a good website showing how your model is assembled. This site also has parts descriptions and prices; useful for comparison shopping. There is also usually a button-link to a free downloadable manual. Here 'tis: http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/part-model/GE-Parts/Dryer-Parts/Model-DISR473DG1WW/0432/0151200?pathTaken=&prst=0&shdMod=DISR473DG1WW
Another good site to check for parts is: http//www.appliancepartspros.com.
Armed with these items, replacing the belt will be child's play for you!
Best regards, (and please rate this solution), --W/D--

Model # DBSR453EB2WW; sounds as if belt needs lubrication when operation dryer, high pitch sqeeking. Please advise.

The belt is attach only to the motor pulley and a tensioner pulley one of which is most likely in need of replacement...you could oil or grease them but that probably wouldn't last very long or work at all...??

you dont need to take the back off. to get inside, first remove the panel on the bottom of the front, that will allow you to remove the front panel and you will be able to get inside the dryer. as far as stretching the belt, i have never heard of that. there is a belt tensioner that holds the belt tight though. good luck!

facing the drier get a small putty knife come about 1 inch from the edge of the drier and push in with the putty knife to release the plastic clip some times this can be difficult pull up on the top at the same time do that on either side till you get the top up then tilt the top back against the wall disconnect the door switch wires look in the drier to the front panel on either side you will see two 5/16 screws remove them tilt the front panel toward you and remove the panel put the belt around the drum slide it back to where you can see the old one has been running pull the idler wheel back hold tension on it and put the belt around the motor pulley let the idler pulley up till it engages the belt and reverse dissemble don't for get to plug the door switch back upimage3.gif
