Every time I charge my phone, the touchscreen stops working. I will try and touch something at the top and it will click on something down at the bottom. Also, when i try to move it to the other screen it will get stuck shaking. And, the icons will sometimes go on, like i had selected them to go into the trash.
My workaround is to charge with a different power source, or stop charging. i think it's the power source. for me, the touchscreen goes crazy when i'm charging via usb with this old computer, but it's fine when i stop charging. it's probably an unclean power source messing with the capacitance sensor.
a 6ya Technician can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

when phone is idle, the auto lock feature locks out the screen. you can set the time when lock engages or disable completely. To unlock, press top right corner button or use touchscreen options by sliding finger up from bottom to top or press unlock button on bottom of touchscreen
If it got wet it might still be wet from the inside and that is why your touch screen wont work, You would need to open it and clean it from inside. Or it could have a bad digitizer and that is a second reason why the touch screen wouldnt work. You can try doing a hard reset if you says it just shows a triangle on the screen.
Turn the G1 off. If it’s frozen on, take the battery out and put it back in the unit.Hold the Home and Power keys down at same time for about 25 seconds. You will see a yellow triangle screen with exclamation point in the middle Now to wipe the device clean: Press Alt+L. Press Alt+W for a factory reset. Press the Home and Back keys again for about 25 seconds. The device should then reset again and the hard reset is complete.
I agree. I'm on my 2nd G1 right now because my first one had touch screen problems. But the problems only started after I started using a different charger (it's been so long I can't remember whether it was just my blackberry mini usb charger, or whether I charged it from my computer; I think it was the computer). However, once it started spazing out it wouldn't stop, it was permanently damaged. So if your touch screen seems a bit finiky after charging with an odd power source, Stop ASAP or you risk permanent damage
Check that the "touch screen lock" is not engaged. To avoid accidental activation of the touchscreen, many models use some kind of "security" so that after a fixed time, the touchscreen will stop responding unless you (e.g.) click an unlock button. Verify this on the user manual.
There is no way to bypass the touchscreen step of the setup process. I repair phones, including the T-Mobile G1. I can replace the screen for you if you would like for $60. Please email me at IGcomputerservices@gmail.com for more information.
Hi there, You are lucky that it is on... try one thing.. put the fun under the sunlight for half an hour or may be 15 min if its too hot there and try it again... if this will not work then try to open the phone if you can clean the top screen area and put it back (try at your own risk) and it will do..
