My samsung dvd r122 recorder will not record, runs for about 25 seconds then spits the disc out with an error message prompting me to turn off the unit and try again.
Have done this but still refuses to record. I have also tried different dvd's.

-   Another one here! Plays fine but "disc error" every time I try to record. Have tried several discs, all the correct type. Bought about 8 months ago from Argos who won't take it back as they say I could have bought it anywhere (unfortunately can't locate the receipt). See mention here of TDK disc, could someone enlighten me please as I don't have a clue what this is but would like to try it and see if it works. Thank you-   leah008

-   I used dvd-r disc to record but still doesn't work. It will start recording but after 6-10 sec, it says "System Error" on the TV and "Wait" on the DVD screen forever.-   bigbully

-   Was recording directly from a DV Camcorder using IEEE cable. Made one recording successfully. Then pressed stop. Received a "wait" display that never went away. Disconnected everything and cycled power. Now just get "system error" anytime I try to record via any means for type of DVD-r or RW.

I had this problem with my R120, it first wouldn't record and eventually wouldn't play, just gave either an error message or "wrong disc.' Then, another DVD player I own did the same thing.

What worked? I opened them both up and swabbed the laser lens with alcohol and then the clean end of the cotton swab. Now both work like a charm. I figure that all the dirty rental DVDs lowly drop dust and gunk and over a few months the build-up caused failure.

Just to be safe, I also used canned air to remove from inside the unit, around the circuit board and on the lens.

I'd advise leaving the unit unplugged for a day or more to let any stored energy drain and if you're not familiar with safety procedures, take it to someone who is.

Does that disc that you are using is working fine before? It might be that you are using a DVD+R that's why you cannot record movie to that recordable disc that you are using. The unit can only support DVD-R. You may try using that DVD-R if you haven't used it before. Hopes this helps.
