Hi Guys,

What needs to be defined first is the reason as to why it had stopped working. Before a suggestion is made, we first need to find out what the model number of your router is (there are many version of the linksys wrt54g router). Once that is defined i suggest you reset your router by doing the instructions as per this web page (cop and paste in your browser): http://technicallyeasy.net/2008/01/how-to-reset-linksys-wrt54g-wireless/

Once you have done that, the router should be set to factory default leaving you with a fresh clean slate. You can then proceed to configure the router for wireless security (if you need it) by following the steps here: http://technicallyeasy.net/2007/09/securing-linksys-wrt54g-wireless-router/

The instructions on these pages should help, however, if you face any uncertainties, please do feel free to get back to me and i shall attempt to cover whatever i can do to help the both of you out. Thank you.

Regards,

Technomancer.

I'm unsure of the exact part number here but using the model number I checked the manual. This looks like it's just an access point which extends a current network you have. If you only have your laptop, this device and your internet modem it may not give you the wireless connectivity you're looking for. On a normal setup you would plug your modem into a router, plug your laptop into the router and set it up with all your DSL/Cable connection information as well as wireless on/off. You can then unplug from the router and continue life. with this one it's only connecting to an existing setup (another router or another wireless network) and extending it.
If you are looking for a solution to give you a router that connects to your modem and gives you wireless or adding multiple devices on a single connection I would recommend returning this and getting an all-in-one router such as this: http://homestore.cisco.com/en-us/Routers/Linksys-E1000-Wirelessn-router_stcVVproductId97826160VVcatId551966VVviewprod.htm?icid=linksys-specs-e1000-learnmore-btn&src2=linksys-specs-e1000-learnmore-btn

Is there wireless repeater option in this linksys wap 610 n model

No, there is not. I actually called Cisco and was told it would work, but after searching on the internet for the configuration options, it turns out it WILL NOT.

Cisco needs better pre-sales reps. That is a lot of money down the drain thanks to their not so educated staff.

Did you try speaking with linksys directly? They can walk you through the troubleshooting online. Switching channels is an option in the wireless section of the router setup. See the documentation for more information.

;) if you dont have a connection in your modem try with a PPPoE connection ;)

it's because you need to change the ipaddress in you linksys
make sure the ipaddress from you modem it's not 192.168.1.1
if you have the same ipaddress on the modem try changin the ipaddress on the linksys to 192.168.1.1

I cant connect to the Internet threw my wireless linksys router wrt54g v.8 which allows me to go on the Internet if its hardwire which defeats the whole point and It wont let me go wireless ? p.s please...

First you need to configure the wireless settings on the access point using the network cable. Do you know how to login to the access point as administrator to setup the SSID, and WAP encryption? Don't forget to change the default password.
To make your access point secure from hackers, turn off SSID broadcast and use MAC address filtering to stop all wireless access to your access point except for the MAC address of your wireless card.

Second, is the wireless card driver installed and working?
Can the wireless detect the access point and does it have a strong signal strength?
The Wireless card needs to be configured with the access point's SSID and encryption settings.
Let me know if you have further problems together with error messages.

basically i like to call it flushing the system packets cause there always running like never ending pot of gold

WET54G stops working

well first off u prolly got hacked, he prolly made a backdoor by now, if he changed the settings on your bridge i reccomend resetting the device to factory defaults then updating the firmware, then obtain a physical copy or digital copy of the book "wireless hacking for dummies" not saying that u r adumb or any thing but this is really good resource to teach u to tighten up your security.
