HI have configured my router WRT54G2 with security mode as "WEP" and Trasnmit key as = "1".

Pass phrase is 10 bits.
Nowon the laptop side, "N/w Authentication" is open, "Data Encryption" is"WEP". I also entered the Network Key as it was entered in thr router.

Nowon connecting to the wireless network, It tries connecting to therouter, but then after some time I see the status as "Limited or noconnectivity".

Any idea where i am going wrong.

    thanks for your reply

The N/W authentication support on the laptop are as below

    . Open
    : Shared
    . 802.1x
    . WPA-Enterprise
    . WPA-Personal
    . CCKM

I used the authentication as "Shared" and entered the key.
    Also used Open

Still it does not connect to the router.

The UI for my router can be seen from the following link
    http://ui.linksys.com/files/WRT54G2/1.0....

I also perfomed the steps you told, but it still does not work.
Firmware version on the router is already latest to 1.0.01

You may set Wireless security of the router to WPA Personal instead. Since it is the supported wireless security of your laptop. If the router is set to WEP then WEP must be set in the laptop as well. But if WEP is not supported by the laptop anymore, then might as well, set WPA Personal to the router.

Hope this helps!

  1. Try to disable WEP in the router and check if the wireless computer will be able to connect to the router and Internet.
  2. Then enable WEP again. If the same problem happens, upgrade the firmware of your router.
  3. Click on the link for the lastest firmware available for your router.

The WEP key is an encryption key that secures your wireless router from unauthorized access. WEP is an old encryption method for a later and stronger encryption use WPA or better still WPA2.

Connect a LAN cable from the Linksys to the LAN port on yourcomputer.
Open a browser and enter the Linksys configuration URL
http://192.168.1.1
The default login = admin
The default PW = admin
You can protect your router by changing the default admin PW (write it down andput it in a safe place)
Go to the wireless configuration and set up the SSID and WPA or WPA2encryption.
Apply these settings to the wireless card in your laptop/computer.

Hi

The Router configuration is not that much difficult, only few thing you have sure,
1) Correct ADSL Connection User name & password,
2) Chose unique ip address in All host.

Follow the mention bellow instruction to configure and connect to Wifi Router,

  • Plug the network cable ( Mine was Blue ) which comes with the Router Box pack to your computer. The other end goes into any of the Router Ethernet Port ( 1 or 2 or 3 or 4 )
  • Now type in 192.168.1.1 in IE or Firefox or any browser. You will prompted for password which is admin. You must be logged into Linksys Router.
  • Now since your ADSL modem is also having the same IP , we will change the IP address for WRT54G2 Router to 192.168.5.1
  • Under Setup >Basic Setup look for Network Setup and Change Router IP. Change to 192.168.5.1 and Save changes.
  • Since the IP has changed you will need to close the Browser.
  • Sometimes the IP doesnt change automatically. Do a IPCONFIG / RELEASE and then IPCONFIG / Renew

  • Save changes.Just make sure you save that key to a notepad or remember it.

I have internet with time warner so have linksys router wireless'but when a try to connect to other computer don,t work

First, check to make sure that you can get Internet through a wired connection, if you can't then wireless won't work either. Second, if you can, then try connecting to the wireless without using WEP or any security. You can turn this off by going to 192.168.1.1 in your web browser while wired to the router from your PC and go under wireless security. If you can connect from an unsecured access point then set up a WEP key with a pass-phrase and when you are asked for the pass-phrase from the PC use the the hex key 1 that is generated by the router instead of the pass-phrase. You should have no problem connecting. Thye wizard that comes on the configuration CD will not set up your wireless correctly, you really have to configure the system using the IP.

How do I enter the WEP encryption on my router

Configuring WEP:
1.Connect a computer to any one of the four LAN ports of the Belkin wireless router.
2.Open your web browser and type the router IP address of the router (by default, the address is http://192.168.2.1.) in the address bar and press Enter.
3.Click Login on the top of the page to login to the router. By default the Password is left blank, click Submit.
4.Click Security under Wireless menu.

5.Under Security, Select 64 bit WEP (or 128 bit WEP).
6.Select Key 1 and enter any 10 hexadecimal digits - any combination of 0-9, A-F (26 digits if you selected 128-bit as the encryption strength). You may also enter a pass phrase and have the router generate a key for you.
7.Apply the settings. Please write down the key – You will need it later to configure your wireless computers with the same key.

Another problem... wireless router Allied Telesyn wa1104g

can you connect without the security???
if so. configure the router with minimum security. if that is good than go up.
you need to clean out the setting on the laptop first.
delete all of the network that the laptop can find. do a fresh search. click on the router you want ot connect. if you setup the WEP. it will ask for a pass key type in the key exactly as you have on the router (case senstive).

let me know if you need addtional info.
