First the machine didn't finish a load. Displayed Er20. Machine hadn't drained and would move or complete drain cycle. I cleaned out all waste pipes, manually drained the machine and cleaned out the pump filter. Now the machine shows er40 and the padlock symbol on the display won't go out. Please help - we have a new born baby and lots of washing to do!!!

have you checked the filter behind the flap on the front of the machine, this could be blocked. if the machine is full of water though you will have to manually drain it by putting the grey outlet hose into a bucket or a washing up bowl. you will also need one or two towels to place on the floor because there wil still be a bit of water left in the ipes even though the drum is empty.
hope this helps

not easy.suggest you disconnect pump and power up independently as an easy way to check if it runs
easiest way to remove pump - and its awkward - is to undo the 3 screws holding the pump to its housing

I am having the same problem with my washer. Go to this web site below it has a free troubleshooting guide. I narrowed my washer machine down to two parts. Stator assy or Main PWB assy.

either you have a blocked hose to the pump or the pump itself is either jammed or the impellor has come off the shaft. either way i think you will need to replace the pump. i presume you managed to get the water out? if so i would say the pump is favourite.

When washing does the unit rotate in both directions ? If NO, the problem (likely) is the motor/brushes. If YES, insure you're not overloading or using non-HE detergent or more commonly refered to as "regular" detergent/soap. (soap is a very bad thing for these front load units).
