There is a bad capacitor inside the TV set in the standby ower supply. this is fir sure as I have seen this problem many many times with toshiba. generic answers are sweet and fine but for those who KNOW for sure will help you for sure. Your going to need a cap checker that called an ESR meter. If you font have a clue what an ESR meter is, then stay safe and call out A PRO TO ASSIST YOU WITH THIS REPAIR. Good Luck with this. If you are familiar with tv service we can start by checking the relay itself for loose conections and while you are looking at the solder conections check for any other overheated areas in the board that might need resolder, handling a 36" tv is not easy and you will need help, you can put it face down on a piece of carpet big enough for the face of the picture tube then remove the back and the chassis will stay in place, sit it up like normal and turn it on,tap with a wooden or rubber handle in different areas of the chassis to see if it reacts while is on or the relay starts chattering, towards or in the the back of chassis is the high voltage transformer with a thick red wire coming out from the top to the back of the picture tube, this is the high voltage lead and you need to stay away from it.If the set reacts to the tapping be attentive of the area bacause is there where you need to look for anything loose, the other possibility is a bad relay and it will need to be replaced if you dont find anything loose. If you are not too familiar with tv service be safe and call for assistance from a servicer. Let Us know how it goes or if you need more information.

I just bought a new remote and cannot find the user guide for the TV. Do you need to program the remote for it to work?

You have to programme it. do the following:
[1] Make sure there are working batteries in the Toshiba remote control.
[2] Turn on your television set, DVD player or other device that you want to control with the Toshiba remote

[3] Find the "Recall" or "Setup" button on the Toshiba remote control. After you find it, press and hold down that button until the lights on the remote control turn on and remain lit.

[4] Point the Toshiba remote at the device you turned on in Step 2 and press the button on the remote for that device.

[5] Begin pressing the "Power" button on the Toshiba remote. Continue doing this until you have turned the device off using the Toshiba remote. Once it shuts off, press "Enter" on the Toshiba remote. The remote will then be programmed.

We have a Sony Trinitron Color TV that seem to be in a sleep mode and we can't turn it on. Would you know what the problem is?

Hello
Press the "Sleep" button on your Sony's remote control hanset until the TV displays the time in minutes [ 15,30,45,60 or 90] that you want the the TV to remain "on" before shutting "Off" automatically. Cancel by pressing until "Sleep Off" appears. The logo also will go out from the screen.
You just do this after unpluging the TV from AC wall socker for about 10 minutes or so, and then plug it.

Manual Code Search and Entry 1. Manually turn on the TV
2. Press and hold the TV button The illuminated ON•OFF key turns on and remains on.
3. While holding the component key down, press and hold the ON•OFF key. The illuminated ON•OFF key turns off.
4. After holding down both keys for three seconds, the illuminated ON•OFF key turns back on.
5. Release both keys. The illuminated ON•OFF key remains on. TIP: Throughout the programming of each key, be sure to keep the remote pointed at the IR sensor of the component you are currently programming the remote to control.
6. Press and release the ON•OFF key repeatedly until your component turns off. Each time you press the ON•OFF key, the illuminated ON•OFF key blinks, and the next
code in the list is sent. This process continues until all of the codes in the Code Lists have been searched. If your component turns off, you have found the correct code.
TIP: Because there are so many codes, you may have to press the ON•OFF key many times-possibly up to 200 times.
7. Once you have found the correct code, you must save the new code by pressing and releasing the STOP key. The illuminated ON•OFF key turns off. You must press the STOP key to save the code or the correct code will not be stored!
8. To confirm that the component key is programmed with the correct code for maximum functionality, test the component. Attempt to control a variety of the component's functions with the remote. If some of the features of your components do not work, try programming the remote with a different code in the list until you find the code that allows the remote to control the majority of your component's functions. Different codes can provide different levels of functionality
