Question about Coby TF-DVD7107 Portable DVD Player

Coby TF DVD7107 region free hack doesn't work

I just purchased the Coby TF DVD7107 to give to a child in Guatemala. I specifically purchased this model b/c there was/is a hack that worked easily to make it region free and many, many users had verified that it worked. No such luck for me. The standard hack (>>, << . . .) is not working on this player. Someone on the videohelp site suggested Coby may have re-manufactured the model to make sure the hack no longer works. Okay. Anyone have a new hack for this model? Also, suddenly a "new" Coby model has shown up on Amazon.com (through DiscountJungle) - it is amazingly a region free model with all the same features as the 7107. This "new" model is Coby TF DVD7004. However, I can't find the 7004 on the cobyusa site OR the discountjungle site. Anyone know what gives here? I've had no response from my intrepid Coby customer service supervisor Daryl on this yet. Thanks so much.

    NYINDIANMIKE,

Well, shoot! That sure didn't work either. The only thing I didn't try was to put a dvd in the player while doing your suggested hack - I don't have one here at my office at the moment.

Thanks again nyindianmike. Are you thinking I'm working with a "regular" dvd player? The TF DVD7107 that I'm struggling with is a portable DVD player. So, there is no dvd "tray" per se - I just opened the cover where the disk is inserted when I tried your last idea for a fix. However, this time I don't even have a "zMENU" button. I only have a "Menu" button. And, sigh, this isn't working either.

Step 1- open the DVD tray Step 2- Press the "MENU" button on the remote control Step 3- Press" 8888" Step 4- Press the " DISPLAY" button Step 5- Select your region. I would suggest enter " 0", this will make it a all region player. Step 6- Press the " SETUP button to exit.

    Hi,

Dont use a disk while making the changes.
    Try this,

Step 1- open the DVD tray
Step 2- Press the "STOP" button on the remote control
    Step 3- Press" 70"
Step 4- Press the " zMENU" button
Step 5- Select your region. I would suggest enter " 0", this will make it a all region player. h

Do you get the welcome (Coby) screen when you first turn on?
If not then it may be the brightness or contrast needs turning up. Or even the backlight is burnt out, as basically it's a bulb behind the dislpay screen.

You may need to clean the laser in the unit. You can purchase a cleaning disk at Radio Shack or Best Buy. They are normally less than $20.

COBY TF-DVD7060 SAYING WRONG DISC

In Remote Control:
1) Press SETUP
2) Press Fwd (»)
3) Press Rwd («)
4) Press Fast Forward (»|)
5) Press Fast Rewind (|«)
Original region number (1 to 6) will appear - uses arrow keys (Navegation) to change to 255 (ALL Regions).
A couple notes:
- The keys referred to in the above hack are on the remote control (not on the front panel). But, if you want, you can use the front panel to implement the hack – just use the key equivalents (i.e., for SETUP, press Mode twice; for », press and hold »| for 2 seconds, and so on ).
- When the Region Number appears, it is in the upper right corner of the Set Up window without any label. In other words, if your player is currently set up for Region 1, look for the number 1 to appear in the upper-right corner of the Set Up screen (once you've pressed the correct sequence of fast forward and reverse keys). Then use the arrow keys to toggle the number to 255.
If you remove the main battery, you might have to do the trick again.
Enjoy.

No image on the screen

missmai and guest, the ballast supplying the CCFL tube may not be working. PCB board is in the lid (Cover) where the LCD screen is mounted. Careful opening it...the membrane (loom) attaching LCD and PCB when stretch too much could render a blank or white faulty display.

If the store where you bought this player do not give service support and parts, you might just have to toss it and forget about it. There is nowhere to get it because the same model you have now is carried by another two (2) brand names plus Coby. Sorry...its the fact...i will let you know if there is a fourth brand.

Good Luck.
