Subwoofer not working

Recently my subwoofer(Paradigm) has stopped working. When I do the test feature for the surround sound all speakers are active including the subwoofer(works with test signal) however when I try and play a DVD, sat signal there is no subwoofer. I also noticed that the power light for the subwoofer comes on when the amp sends the test signal to it. I have checked all wires and connections and input sources. Please, can you help?

Re: Subwoofer not working

You have to reset the receiver, i had the same problem, works now, it's great, should be in the instruction booklet. I think it was, hold the power button while you disconnect it from the wall, not too clear but check the booklet in resetting system

Re: Subwoofer not working

Yes to Vic's reply. With power off, hold power button as you unplug from wall. I've got an older model (1999-ish), and works for me, so far.

Htddw7600, brand new, sub amp is not working, only way to get any bass sound is to unplug the sub cable from back of main amp and touch it on side of sub out port.

You have a very good of the best of SONY..SUB does not get activated automatically especially on STEREO mode.DIRECT STEREO Notes • No sound will be output from the subwoofer.
.your system has Dedicated Power Amplifier for 2 Externally Driven Sub-Woofers (200W RMS x 2) order to activate the sub woofer amplifier you need to make a selection on the surround modes while you are switching the modes of the surround you will see the speaker position on the display of receiver as well..if you do not see the sub woofer it wont be activated..Sound Field Program (A.F.D) is a good example to test it..

Additionally please follow the instruction on your user manual to activate the SUB ,as is follows..

Low-frequency (bass) signals can be directed to the

• Select FRONT if you do not use a subwoofer. LFE and
low-frequency signals from other channels are directed
to the front speakers according to the speaker settings

• Select BOTH if you connect a subwoofer and you want
to output low-frequency signals from front channels to
both the front speakers and subwoofer. LFE and low-
frequency signals from other channels are also directed

this function to reinforce low-frequency signals using
the subwoofer when playing back sources such as CDs.

There is no sound coming out of the subwoofer

I assume it's an active subwoofer, since it hums. Did you activate sub in the receiver menu? Did you turn up the volume on the sub?

How to switch on Sub?

surround and subwoofer may not work if there is an additional graphic equaliser operating.
1. check in your receiver speaker setting ensure your speaker setup doesn not have subwoofer set to NONE. this will block any signal to your subwoofer socket.
2 when you select your surround sound setting setup, ensure you select the speaker mode you want, if there is a multicontrol knob, cycle through the choices
select subwoofer mode and set it to yes.
if you have set-up small speakers S in your speaker settings then it could be that subwoofer is set to yes automatically if you have large speakers L, subwoofer has to be set additionally in the subwoofer setting.
3 test subwoofer on alternative device to test it is working ok
consult manual on enjoying surround sound and adjusting the speaker settings.

Garbled / feedback sounds from powered subwoofer

The surround processing portion of the unit has a problem. In either stereo or direct mode, the digital procesing is bypassed. This could be just the surround processing IC, but that IC may not be available as a separate part. I would suggest that you bring this unit to an authorized Onkyo service center for an estimate.
