You will have to remove the power cord, remove the batteryand remove the CMOS Battery that is located on the motherboard. On mostcomputers you will have to take the laptop apart to get to the cmosbattery. On some systems it looks like a silver nickel that you will needa small flat head screw driver to pop it out. On other systems it will beinside a vinyl covering and has a cable that plugs into the motherboard. Once you remove the CMOS Battery, let it sit for an hour or two then put itback in and put the laptop back together. Boot the machine and you'llprobably have to go into the Bios or System Setup because the system will haveforgotten the date, time and password. If the password is not cleared you will have to short the jumper on the motherboard to clear the password. Some systems make it easy by just having to remove a pin that connects two points on the board. The Password Jumper should be labeled on motherboard.

SOURCE: bios password dell d800

Remove BIOS battery. Short BIOS jumper or leave the battery out for a long time(Over night, maybe) This should default the BIOS to having no pass word present.  If that doesn't work then evidently Dell has one within the BIOS . Just ask them.

Just hit the set up key as your machine boots up, usually, F2-F3 or F8.
Go to safe mode using the up-down arrows and where it says set/change password, simply hit the enter button, enter a new password in and close, using the save function.

Need help with inspiron 1501 bios and hdd password

Dell Inspiron BIOS Password Recovery
Each Dell Inspiron has a master password which will clear the BIOS password. You can get this number by calling Dell Technical Support at (800)624-9896.
Dell Technical Support will request the Service Tag and Express Service Code from the bottom of your Inspiron.
If you were not the original owner of the Inspiron, Dell will transfer registration of the used Inspiron from the original owner with only the Service Tag and Express Service Code from the tag on the laptop.
To transfer the registration of a used Dell Inspiron, fill out the Transfer of Ownership form on Dell's web site.

Configuration Setup Password

Call Dell and they can help.

If this laptop is second hand, you will need to go to dell.com and transfer ownership to you. You can put previous owner unknown. If will take 30 days for the transfer to take effect. After that Dell will help you with your password problem.

They will give you a master password that will work only for your laptop.
You have to follow their directions carefully, or it will not work.

If it still does not work, double check the service tag.

If the motherboard has been replaced the service tag will be different.
The service tag is also listed in the BIOS, if you can get to it.
