Niles ZR-6

I had the same issue as Brian, the Niles ZR8630 stays in initializing mode. At first, the unit would not turn on, so opened it and replaced the fuse, power was restored. But now the unit continually stays in INIT mode.
any body has an answer/solution?

I hooked up a Niles speaker switcher to my pioneer vsx 521 k receiver.I tested it and immediately there was a smell and the receiver powered off . It won't come back on, is it a fuse or have I rui

The audio outputs have been fried, plus the main fuse blown. The power transformer will need to be checked for a open primary, I suggest you get a estimate first. My feeling is that it will be expensive.

Connecting 6 pair of speakers (12 total) via one stereo receiver

His receiver has enough power all 6 pairs of speakers, however, he should use a speaker selector switch. Niles is very well built and you can find them with an "on/off" button for each pair, and they have models that will independantly conrol volume as well. (SSVC-6) For a good unit, expect to pay from $250-$400. They will keep the unit at an 8ohm load and not over tax the receivers power supply.
Hope this helps

I have a relatively new (less than 3 months old) Harmon Kardon Receiver HK3490. It turns on but immediately turns off. You can hear a clicking sound like a breaker is disengaging. The problem started...

It is a relay clicking. You will need to obtain a schematic to troubleshoot this but they are available online. The protection circuits have been degraded from the short circuit but it is still alive and the discrete components are easy to replace. I used to use Sam's Fotofax but googling your HK model will get you alot of results. Harmon Kardon is a great brand and definitely worth fixing. ~Steve Medley
