I have a problem with a IBM laptop windows XP that can not write to USB sticks at all.

"The disk is write-protected" I have tried many sticks of many types including Kingston. They work on other computers but not this one.
This is not to do with any switch on the sticks!

Please if there is anyone who knows how to solve this then please tell me.

    Thanks

Virus might be caused for such problem, scan drive with a updated virus cleaner then format it.

When i format usb 4gb kingston the computer says the memory card is write-protected.please release the write protect switch.this is my problem plz solve my problem what can i do sir.

There should be a small switch on the usb drive somewhere. You should be able to flip that switch and it takes it out of write-protection mode. I cant tell you where exactly because it is different depending on the brand. Some do not even have one, but if you are told it is write protected, then it should be a switch on it!

Hope this helps.

Kingston DataTraveler2GB

Hi, I couldn't get any software utility or firmware updater/repair from the Kingston site, however, I have tried the HP Drive Key Boot Utility and it works even for Kingston and JetFlash. The bad side is it completely erases the contents of the USB drive. Should you want to venture and try it, it is available for download at http://h18000.www1.hp.com/support/files/serveroptions/us/download/23839.html file name is cp006049.exe Hope this be of some help/idea. Post back how things are or should you need further information. Good luck and kind regards.
