check at the back of the scales for an adjustment screw or knob
to make the adjustment you will need items of known fixed mass over say 2 lb to 40 lb
you can do this by accurately measuring 1/2 gallon , 1 gallon 2 gallon 4ga;;ons of water as it is 10 lb to the gallon
there may be a pdf version download on the net if you go google and type in--- user manual for (make and model ) scales
Very few electronic scales are accurate as they are a function of a resistance measured against a voltage. They may be accurate when you buy them, but over time the electronic components decay and read differently as the components are cheap 10% type resistors and capacitors and cannot hold their specific values over time. If you want accuracy, you will have to get a balance type scale that can be calibrated on site.

Either do a search for that particular scale brand & model, which should take you to the company, whom should have a manual on-line or go back under search and type in "users manuals". There should be several manual websites that come up. Just don't click on the websites that require money for their manuals, when you can get them for free at other sites.
Like all body fat tests, body fat scales don't actually measure your body fat percentage. They determine your body density. The examiner (or the scales) then uses a formula to calculate body fat percentage based on body density. These formulas just predict your body fat. Unfortunately there is no one formula that accurately predicts body fat for the whole population. Differences in age, gender, ethnicity, body size, and fitness level all have a significant affect on the results. Well, whether body fat scales measure your "true" body fat percentage or not doesn't matter! As long as they can accurately monitor changes in your body composition over time, that's all you need.
