Question about Sony Walkman MZ-NHF800 Personal MiniDisc Player

1 Answer

Volume control mini disk recorder mz-nhf800 my volume control on the "loose" cable control thing is frozen/broken, so i am trying, without success, to use the round big wheel button to change the volume from zero to max. how am i supposed to press or dial this rotary control to get the volume up. if i cannot listen to the violin practice that i record for myself at home, this is useless. thank you. Hi- The volume control is NOT on the wheel. It's accessed by pushing the middle arrow button with 'ENT' on it up or down. Try it you'll like it. BTW, I do repairs. I might be able to repair your remote.

Mini Disks are still available new or used on sites like Ebay and Amazon.
You could also try sites like Freecycle and advertise for them in the wanted section....and get them for free!

You will need just a mini-jack cable to connect the headphones output to the line in from the motherboard of your pc - put the volume at low, you will probably have to make several tries till you get the correct volume.
Then just use a recording program like Audacity

Transfer Mini disk music to a PC

You cannot do this.

All minidisc player/recorders (with the partial exception of the later and far rarer Hi-MD players) can only download material from the host computer. They are physically incapable at the basic hardware level of uploading material to the host computer even if it's material which you own the copyright for. As a result, there's not even a hack for it as the wiring just isn't there to do it.

The only way to transfer from the minidisc player to the host computer is by connecting a lead to the audio output socket (headphone socket) and to the audio input socket (microphone) on the host computer. There is some quality lost but if the computer has a good audio card and matching software the losses are minimal. You can improve the transfer quality by going into the menu of the MZ-N510 and setting the output socket to "line". This bypasses the volume controls completely giving a purer signal path.

You may have ruined the phantom power source in your minidisc recorder. XLR microphones use a 48 v power supply.
