Dim control panel unable to read

Frigidare FMT148G1W1 control panel too dim to read in any kind of light. Is there a resistor or transformer tap I can change to brighten the characters in the display? Reseated all connectors on circuit board, inspected board for cold solder joints, swollen or damaged components, nothing found. Is the schematic for the control panel available anywhere?

Removed the amber glass which obscures the display enough to remove the wiring from view. This also allows you to see the characters much more clearly. You now can see the inidvidual light elements.
It's not too bad, people don't even notice, but they do notice you can now tell the time and see what the oven is doing.

Product is GE Microwave (Spacesaver-type) JNM1731DM1BB. New surface light bulbs installed. Unable to turn them off or change from bright to dim

Bottom lights are controlled through relays on the main control board which is mounted on the back of the touch pads (control panel). You can check and see if wires are touching each other on the board but my guess is the board is defective and needs replaced.

Blown fuses

Well you certainly have done a lot of work on a microwave that is not worth the effort. When fuses blow and destroy other items ,it is time to junk it and up date. I have found that when something like what happens 9 times out of 10 it will be the magnetron or transformer either of which will be more than 1/2 the cost of a new machine.

Are you able to get a VFD separately for Maytag MMV4205BAW to repair dim display panel without doing the entire panel?

The VFD (vacuum fluorescent display) tube is not available as a separate part for this model, so you would have to order a new control circuit board.

For model MMV4205BAW, the board's Amana part number W10127098 and it runs a hefty $232.30.

if you order the board by the original Samsung part number, you can probably get it a for a lot less.

Here is a photo of a similar board which is marked to show you where to find the full part number.

You can find links to helpful exploded view diagrams and part ordering help here.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

Once the controller is out, you disconnect the keypad, then take out your old board and put in the new one.

Some connectors may have a lock.

Microwave runs but doesn't heat

If there is no noise at all, this suggests that the power transformer isn`t receiving power from the timer/control panel. If you do hear a little buzz when you operate the microwave, The timer/control panel is operating, However It could be a few things which if you are confident enough to tackle, could be sorted by you but bear in mind that microwave ovens can store a lethal amount of voltage which can kill, about 2000 volts for a year or so. Possible causes of your fault are the Magnetron, Power transformer, Capacitor, Diode or even the control panel that provides power for the power transformer if you don`t hear the buzz. Have you got a meter?? Yes? Switch it to X10 ohms. Next, Unplug from the power socket and remove the casing, discharge the high voltage capacitor with a pair of well insulated snipe nosed pliers covered in a thick dry towel. Next, place the meter leads between the capacitor where the thick lead enters, and the casing of the oven. Does the meter read anything? No? You need to find out if the transformer is receiving power from the timer/control panel. If it is, the Magnetron will be US or the heater supply is missing to the magnetron. If the meter reads, The diode/capacitor or magnetron is short circuit. Disconnect the thick leads which are connected to the capacitor, Check for leakage across the capacitor again, Yes? Magnetron OK. Some diodes are built into the capacitor. On models where the diode is visible, (A black device going from the capacitor to a screw holding it to the casing), either unscrew the screw or disconnect the connector on the capacitor, now read the capacitor connector, if OK, no reading, Diode US, If there is a reading, the capacitor is US. If there`s still no reading, read the lead which you removed from the capacitor which goes to the Magnetron, If it reads, the Magnetron is Short Circuit. To check the heater, connect your meter across the two connectors on the magnetron, If it reads, the heaters are OK, read across the two wires that you revoved from the magnetron, if it reads, the Transformer is OK, if not, a new Transformer is reqiured. If not, they are O/C, New magnetron required. I hope this helps, Ian

GE Microwave Spacesaver shuts down and trips circuit

I would suspect your high voltage transformer has failed. Here is a link you or someone you know can use for test help, but read the safety warnings first:

You can usually find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

There should also be a "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting & testing.
