horizontal output transistor is defective, also change out damper diode(cc4402). very common repair. use buh517 transistor. they last longer. i just repaired my own personal set. same problem. Solution #1posted on Oct 25, 2007

I'm sorry about the nonsense solutions that you have received thus far. Since the set "recovers" somewhat, this can be a couple of things. Most simply, it can be a poor solder joint that is interrupting normal operation. This is easily fixed by resoldering any connections that appear to be grainy or have rings. Please unplug the set and let it sit for a while before attempting this. Note that TVs retain quite a bit of electricity and can be dangerous even when unplugged.

That being said, the breakdown of the internal insulation in the flyback transformer can cause this as well. If you can solder, look for the poor connections first and update this if you still have problems.

Dear Sir/madam,

The first thing you should try is a hard reset. Unplug the tv before going to bedthen plug it back in in the morning. If this doesn't work you have anessential failure which will need repair. The two main causes of thetype of problem you are having is either a poor solder connection righton the board where the screens connectsto the TV, or the second a faulty Picture tube. I think the picture tube has problem. This will huge cost to repair. Check out with warranty. Either way it will need tobe attended to by a technician. I recommend checking the warrantyinformation that came with the unit to see if there is any way you canrecoup some or all of the cost of a repair which will be needed.Hopefully the manufacturer will take care of it for you if it is withintheir timeframe. I hope this helps...

thanks
good luck

Squeal sound  is due to an excessive load on the power supply, check the horizontal output and flyback transformer. Moreover horizontal output transistor is defective, also change out damper diode(cc4402).  use buh517 transistor. they last longer. and if it does not turn on replace eeprom ic.

I own a GE 31gt740 and I heard a squealing noise a few times, but TV still worked. Then, I turned it on one day, heard the squealing noise, then saw a little smoke, some crackling, and no sound or picture....

I think that the problem of your tv is the flyback transformer. The noise you are hearing is the high voltage, it is leaking from the flyback transformer. The smoke you see may came from the flyback or the capacitor. To be sure to the problem, try to remove the back cover of your tv but be sure to unplug it. Try to plug it, then turn on your tv but you should turn of the light so you could see the high voltage that is leaking but be very careful when doing it.

Model 35 gt695 no pic or sound .went to move tv to clean and seen a flash on top right of screen.worked fine after that .in the morning came on fine for 10 minutes then heard a pop and it went off.light...

Most likely the high voltage transformer took a dive. If the picture was still good before it went out it is probably worth a check out fee. Another possibility is that there was a loose solder joint developing and moving the set around helped the loose joint come completely undone. Thanks

Sylvania SRT2232S Powers On, No Picture, High Frequency squeal

Hello there. I'm sorry to say that it sounds as if the element that actually energizes your screen is bad. It is most likely overheating. or quite poosible the power converter lost a resistor or 2.

Stopped working and squealing sound

Your set is shorted circuit condition. The power supply is making the noise. Unfortunately almost any of the hi current circuits will do this. If picture went out 1st look for video or hi voltage problems.
