It will be best to try to get its original remote control, rather than using a universal remote control with this set Vizio. If you wish to buy its original remote control, contact the authorized service centre, or authorized dealer to your device brand. They can either give you a genuine remote control to your device, or can direct you, from where can you purchase a suitable one. http://electrohelponline.blogspot.com/

When an Insignia TV is locked, it keeps you from watching all of
your channels by only displaying a black screen. Insignia TVs are locked from a
single button command on the remote control, so it is easy for you to lock the
TV by accident. Since Insignia TVs can be locked so easily, it's important to
know how to undo this command and unlock the TV yourself. So, unlock your
Insignia TV with the push of a button and once again enjoy watching your
favorite programs. • Find the lock
button on the Insignia remote control. The lock button is located on the third
column from the left on the second row from the top of the remote.
•Stand within operating range of the
Insignia TV, then aim the remote at the TV's receiver and press the
"Lock" button on the remote control.
• Aim the remote at the TV and press the
channel buttons to make sure the TV is unlocked. When the TV is locked, it
shows a black screen and does not allow you to view anything else. If the
screen remains black, press the "Lock" button again. If this doesn't
work, change the batteries in the remote and start over at step .

The remote control is an acess to the TV device for example only from a distance. The remote is handheld pointed to the direction of TV requiring signal before button pressed woudl achieve response. a common button to start the remote control experience is pressing on the power button, that displays a signal on the TV. The TV should momentarily produce a sound and lighting effect,, and displaying on the dark screen a light blue screen. The initial signal response from remote control to TV indicates devices are functioning as required. Additional buttons on the remote controll could perform functions of several available.

Hello. On your TV remote control there is button "Picture mode" or similar name. You can change image to "zoom" or "wide" by using it. Sometimes if in "zoom" mode it still not fill whole screen - you have to change display settings in you notebook for external display. Regards. Russ.
The box is probably because you have closed-captioning turned on and set to "text" mode. Check the TV remote control for a button marked "CC" or "CAPTION" or something similar. Press the button to cycle through captioning options until you get to "OFF". This should clear up the trouble.
What's happening is that in text mode, the TV blanks out the area on the screen where the text should go, but there's nothing to display. Text mode isn't widely used, but in some markets it's used to display weather or other information. What sometimes happens is that the caption button on the remote gets pressed and you don't know the TV is set to text mode until the box starts coming up. And it doesn't happen on every channel, or even all the time on the same channel, so it can seem very random.
