More information is probably needed before you can solve this problem. More likely than not, you have an anti-virus and/or spam filter. You need to double check these programs to assure that their integrated firewalls are not activated. If you need further assistance, I would suggest adding another post and including information on any anti-virus programs, spam filters and also describe the routing scenario you have (i.e. are you on the same network/subnet, have multiple routers, etc.).

Nat problem

first off make sure that you manually allow the port exception on windows. second make sure the exception is added to your router, for example if your computer ip adress is 192.168.1.101 (run ipconfig in command prompt to find out) make sure the port is forwarded (use a number above 40000 and make sure it is not blacklisted). next if your router has uNap settings/NAT translation make sure you add vuze to its programs to monitor list.

Windows File Sharing And The Dangers Of NetBIOS

NetBIOS is a Windows File and Print Sharing protocol, and it uses TCP/UDP ports 135, 137,138, and 139.

* TCP/135 - RPC: This port is potentially quite dangerous. Remote Procedure Calls are requests from one machine to another for service. The RPC service acts as something of a facilitator, or go-between, between the client making the request and the machine being asked for service, i.e. a request is made to this "end-point mapper service" and then a port is allocated dynamically to the service being requested. This is similar to the RPC functionality found in the Unix world, and although it's not technically a "file sharing" port, it ties heavily into Windows networking in general.

* UDP/137 - NetBIOS Name Service: This port is used to attain name resolution for NetBIOS. Think of it as NetBIOS's version of DNS or ARP. It's simply a way to use something you have, make a query, and get something you want in return. For NetBIOS it's from a NetBIOS name to an IP, for DNS it's a DNS name to IP, and for ARP it's from IP to hardware address.

* UDP/138 - NetBIOS Datagram Service: This port primarily allows the SMB browser service to populate the browse lists seen when using "Network Neighborhood".

* TCP/139 - NetBIOS Session Service: This is perhaps the most known Windows port of all, as it is used to transfer files over TCP. This is both the port that NULL Sessions are established over and the port that file and printer sharing takes place on. If you are considering restricting access to ports on your Windows machine, this one needs to be on the top of the list.

NOTE: By disabling NetBIOS, all existing file shares must be shared using the IP address, rather than the NetBIOS Name, or else the share won't work.

How to disable NetBIOS in Windows 2000:

  1. open Windows Explorer
  2. Right click on My Network places and select properties
  3. Click Internet protocol TCP/IP and select properties
  4. Click on Advanced and then WINS
  5. Select Disable NetBIOS over TCP/IP and click ok
  6. Restart your computer
  7. If Windows displays "This connection has an empty ... " message, ignore it and click ok
How to disable NetBIOS in Windows 95/98/ME
  1. open Windows Explorer
  2. Right click on My Network places and select properties
  3. Select Internet protocol TCP/IP and click Properties
  4. In NetBIOS, clear "NetBIOS over TCP/IP" check box and click OK.
How to disable NetBIOS in Windows Vista/7
  1. Click Start, and then click Network. (Or you can click Start, type ncpa.cpl into the search box, and press ENTER).
  2. Click on the Network and Sharing Center, and then click Manage Network Connections.
  3. Right click on the Local Area Connection or the connection you are using, and then select Properties.
  4. Select the Internet Protocol version 4 (TCP/IPv4)
  5. Click the Advanced button under the General tab.
  6. Click the WINS tab.
  7. Click the Disable NetBIOS Over TCP/IP button.
  8. Click Ok.
  9. Restart your computer.

Firewall Configuration

A firewall is a type of security mechanism used for preventing security threat in both incoming and outgoing computer traffic. It protects your computer system and/or the private network from intrusions.
It acts as a barrier, which checks all the incoming and outgoing information to and from your computer or a network based on the firewall settings. Firewalls can be customized according to the level of security required. It filters the messages based on some conditions, such as the IP address, ports, protocols, domain names etc.
These can be implemented in the hardware, software or sometimes both and scan the entire messages passing through it and veriy whether each block or packet of the message meets the specified security criteria.
Some operating systems like Microsoft Windows offers built-in firewalls, which are by default turned on to block incoming threats from the Internet. You can also look for any third-party software or hardware firewall to replace the default Windows firewall.
Types of firewall
There are various types of firewalls like:
1. Packet filtering firewall
2. Application-level gateways
3. Circuit-level gateways
4. Hybrid firewall
The role of packet filtering firewall is to examine the information available in the header of the message packets. The Application-level gateway firewall works on the application layer of the protocol stack. It works in a more intelligent way as compared to the packet filtering firewall.
Mentioned below are some of the conditions, which help in adding or removing the filters from the firewall:
1. IP address: Every machine connected to Internet has a unique IP address. You can customize the firewall to block any IP address, if it seems to show an uneven or unauthorized attempt or nature.
2. Protocols: You can decide which protocols to be included in your firewall’s filters. Some of the commonly used protocols, which can be included in the firewall are: IP, HTTP, TCP, FTP, SMTP etc.
3. Ports: You can configure the firewall to allow or block any port number.
Similarly, there are various other conditions which can be used to configure the firewall.

I cant open youtube

Go to Start > Control Panel > Windows Firewall> Exceptions> Click on add port.
Call it port 80.
In port number type in 80.
Then click on OK.
Then close all the windows.

Basically on the computer that is running apache (Server), YouTube is unblocking the port called 80. On some systems mainly XP home we found that port 80 was always blocked. Even though localhost worked, computers connecting to it would get an connection error. Also, if you have a 3rd party firewall, you have to unblock YouTube. If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe

Can't receive my E-Mail

Depends on the (client) program you are using, but...

1) Test your WEB Browser (Internet Explorer or Firefox),
to make sure you can get MSN or Google.

This tell you if the network and the TCP/IP stack are
working properly.

2) If the network is fine, open you email client and check
your server setting for: POP-3, and SMTP.

These setting must match those specified by your
IP service provider.

Also make sure that the email login and server password
are correct.

3) Pay particular attention to the error messages you
get inside you email client, when it fails to access the
server. These should give you a clue:

a) Can't find server / invalid domain name ... etc...
b) Can't login ... user not authorized...
c) No network connection ... denied...

etc...

4) Server and domain name problems indicate a typo or
error in your POP3/ SMTP settings. These are sometimes
changed by the IP provider, so please check with them.
Also check the port numbers:

Port 110 = POP3 = Incoming mail server
Port 25 = SMTP = Outgoing mail server

are typical, but it really depends on th provider.

5) If you can't login, the login ID or password are wrong,
or your provider has closed you account, which they tend
do to with a nasty deliberation if you owe them money.

6) If the email program cannot connect to the internet at
all, but you WEB browser can, then you have a fire wall
problem.

Check these firewall, and disable them temporarily,
to see if it fixes the email problem:

The Windows Firewall: Control Panel === Windows Firewall
(disable it)

Any software firewall you may have installed, such as
Norton's, AVG antivirus...etc. Disable them too.

If you use an external router or residential gateway
to connect to the internet, such as SISCO, CVG, SMC

Log into the router using your WEB browser, and disable the
firewall.

7) Once you identify a firewall problem, you need to setup
exceptions for your email client.

8) If you cannot get any Internet, including the WEB,
then you have a different problem.

a) run the Windows Network setup wizard again,
from the control panel.

b) If you connect directly to the Internet through your cable
or DSL this should fix it.

c) If you still use a telephone modem, that has to be
setup as well.

d) If you use a residential gateway, barricade or router
to connect to DSL or CABLE, then you need to set
that up next using you WEB browser. Typical router
address is: 192.168.1.1

e) In the case of DSL you router may also need to be
programmed with you login/password info, because in
this case it is the router that connects and logs into
your internet provider's server, not your computer.
(your computer sees the router, not the provider.)

Anyway, not knowing what your exact problem is,
I think that I have covered the waterfront here,
hope it helps.

Please rate my answers.

How do i reprogram a 2wire 2071-A

Do you have your instructions? I can tell you but it would be easier for you if you can just look at the guide and take your time. You can do a reset and then reprogram. If that's all you want to know I can do that. Would you want me to get you athe manual or tell you specifically how to do something?

Port forwarding

hi there,
this is a basic step used to forward ports to your system.
Port Forwarding Steps for Routers 1. Log into your router. Usually the URL is http://192.168.1.1/, and enter the username , and the password . If you have never set a password, the password (which you should change) is admin. Consult the manual if you have never set up your router before or need to reset the password. 2. Click on the "Applications & Gaming" tab or Under Advanced, click Port Forwarding.
3. Click on the "Port Range Forward" tab .
4. In the "application" field, type "web" (if you are forwarding wb traffic on port 80) or "torrent" (if you are forwarding bittorrent traffic on port 40156). This is just a "nickname" so that you can recognize what you were trying to do when you come back to it.
5. In the "Start" field, enter: 80
6. In the "End" field, also enter: 80
7. Set "Protocol" to TCP. Web and Bittorrent servers use only TCP, so there's no reason fo forward UDP traffic too and create an unnecessary security risk.
8. In the "IP Address" field, enter: 192.168.1.11 or your system IP address.
9. Click "Save Settings." Forwarding should begin immediately.
