There are only a several paramaters to get right for email communications with outlook email and other email clients of the same type like eudora.

Regarding being prompted for your name and password when outlook checks mail.

#1 Your Username is most often your full email address myname@mydomain.com
but just the same outlook usualy puts as default your mailbox name only ie myname

#2 The password may be wrong.

#3 Generaly I have found that oulook and others like eudora are prone to showing you a setting in the setup dialog windows that is not 'taking' - My solution is to remove the email setting for that account and put in a fresh one, same information but then often it works! (same with eudora)

I've been trying to set up outlook on my compaq Presario CQ61 Windows 7 outlook 2007. I keep getting a dialog box requesting user name and password prompt. My user name and passwrod have been checked on...

There are two main areas that you need to look, first, something is wrong with the username and or password. If it keeps asking, that means you are not connecting. Be sure you have internet access.

The other area is the outgoing mail server, some ISPs require you to use theirs, but your tech call should have resolved this.

Log on to the web based mailbox to confirm what you think the access should be.

In my Outlook program I have a drop down window that appears and asks for a user name and a password. How can I get rid of it?

Delete and recreate the account that you have on your Outlook. Make sure that you have the correct incoming and outgoing mail server. Correct user name and password so that once you open up your Outlook, it will ask you for your user name and password once.

Have a great day!
